I have been vaping since December on a KR808, I haven't kicked the analog habit as of it yet severely put a dent in in. I want to stay with cartomizers which your site has had the best information on Cartomizers that I have found. I am curious on upgrading to either a Riva 510 or Ego but looking through all the information I am going through information overload. So I would like to take the time to ask a few or couple of questions.

1. I want to use the cover will there a problem using the atomizer cover over the carto without effecting airflow or for that matter, will they fit over the cartomizer.

2. I have only seen 1 510 kit even remotely set up for cartomizers so is it taboo to use a cartomizer for a 510.

Thank you for your patience and time. I beginning to think that the internet can be a curse at times/

Hey Steel,
Firstly, don't put too much pressure on yourself on smoking. The more you force yourself, the more your mind will play games. Just keep doing whatever is best to you (note:not for you, just To you) Whatever you enjoy isn't really a problem nor should you convince yourself that it is. Just take it in all in stride and enjoy yourself.

An Ego and Riva do have a pretty significant difference in voltage Ego 3.4 and Riva 3.7V, they both claim to have the same run time (mah).

1. Sort of, the Mega 510 will definitely protrude from the cone. A 306 with standard drip tip is still pretty low and it is easy to cover the unit along with cone when trying to use it, severing your own airflow. with cartomizers you won't have that problem. Plus if you find a carto too low, you can always add a drip tip to it just fine.

2.0Not at all. 510 cartomizers are still fairly new to the vaping world and when they come in, they tend to sell out just as fast from any vendor. We officially Platinum, Gold V1, Gold V2, Gold V2 w/out drip tip, and the Mega LR. So basically that's 4 different variations of it.

3. it is! but a good curse ;)

I am not too worried about the mega cartomizers I was thinking of coupling it with one of your LR cartomizers. Are the Riva 1100 batteries somewhat the new thing thing compared to the 750 mah batteries

I know someone else will probably be able to give a much better answer, but until then, I can tell you that, that I'm fairly certain the Riva 1100 mah are new to the market. They even have a 1300 mah (I bought one for my mom whom I'm trying to convert over to vaping:2cool:). The 1100 mah batteries will give you a longer vape time versus the 750 mah batteries. I think Ikenvape's website says 1 hour per every 100 mah. Hope this helps! Good luck and Happy :vapor:!

I have been using an ego for about a month now, and am waiting for some 5v goodies to arrive. With regards to your questions...

1. As Isaac said, sort of. There are several cartomizers that will be very restricted when using the cone. The mega 510 LR is one of them. It is a very tight fit and very little air gets through, causing additional heat and a very tight draw. The first LR 510 I used went kaboom because of this. On the other hand, the V2 Gold Drip style and non drip style work fine with the cone. As do the first generation gold cartomizers. It is going to be trial and error but you will find what works best for you.

2. You can generally use cartomizers on all 510 batteries. There are recommendations to not use low resistance cartomizers on any battery below 350mah because low resistance cartos/attys will drain the battery faster.

Side note: coming from a KR808 - the ego is closer in voltage, and the riva is stronger than what you're used to. I say skip both of them and try a box mod. It is much cheaper than getting one of those two starter kits and you can reuse the batteries in another mod if you upgrade. If you're handy with a soldering iron and hot glue / epoxy you can get all the parts to build your own box mod for 10 bucks. Here is one example. If you would rather buy a premade box mod, then you could do something like this. If you're looking for something that is visually appealing then I would say go with the ego passthrough. It has a battery in it but also uses a typical usb cable to charge - and can be detached. It doesn't have to stay hooked up to a usb port... and that's what I use when I am at work. It's cheaper than buying a starter kit.

Good luck and happy vaping. As always, don't be afraid to ask questions. We were all new to this at one point or another. :)

Steeldragon, 510 cones need to be slightly modified to fit over a cartomizer. The easiest way is to sand down the narrow (top) part of the cone with #200 sandpaper (or, if you're handy, with some power tool). You need to take off just ~1/8" or so, just so it clears the carto shell nicely and doesn't impede the airflow. Or you can buy a 901 Riva cone that is made especially for cartos. It fits all other eGo/Riva/Tornado class batteries.

I use my 3.2v eGo batteries with 2.0-2.5Ω 510 cartomizers. You can also get nowadays the true 3.7v SE Rivas, which are the exact same voltage as the kr808 batteries (not regulated).

Good luck!

I used cartomizers on a riva for a long time. The cone fit for me but draw is tight. If you don't want to sand down a cone you can order a cone for a 901 riva. They are about 5 bucks and they will fit a 510 riva or ego battery. They are shorter and allow for better air flow for cartomizers.

EDIT Katya beat me too it. I type slow on my phone.
