I wouldn't use vinegar on any electronic components--it's acid. I soak in PGA (Everclear). And vaping some unflavored (VG, PG, or a blend, with or without nicotine) is the best way to keep the coil clean between juices, as Kent recommended.

I understand what you're saying. Here's the vid:

How To - Cleaning an atomizer - YouTube

Here's what I thought when I saw the vid. Vinegar is a good overall household cleaner and so is baking soda. Vinegar is mildly acidic and baking soda is mildly alkaline. Looks like the foaming interaction would help clean wick and wire. I figured the pressure created by the foaming action would help too - although I've often heard it said that you always blow through the battery side and never vice versa.

The only thing electronic about a coil is that it's a piece of wire that becomes heated when connected to a battery. <shrug>

I know the alcohol thing is more commonly used. I wouldn't even think of trying vinegar on clearomizers. <grin>

I was just curious if either of you tried it.

As a general rule:

If you were an ultralight smoker - use 6-8mg nic level
Lights smoker - 12-18mg nic
Full Flavor - 18-24mg
Camel unfiltered ;) 24+mg

Would you mind if I borrowed this to use in the newbies member areas sometimes?

Too many people recommend to newbies to go 18 or + and I keep trying to discourage that, since I was getting massive headaches when I started, til some kind soul figured out I should start vaping at 12-14mg max, based on my previous smoking habits. :)

A newbie friend got "nic-ed out" because she was an ultra lite smoker, and she threw up because she really only needed about 9mg.

I think a lot of new members really over do it on the nic strength ......

For sure - use it ... did my time there* and it is truly helpful to those who will listen/read....

Alright. I took everyone's advice, and bought everything. Well, almost everything. Still need to find a bottle of Everclear or Galen's vodka. <grin> Never heard of either of them before this thread. Even had to google "Everclear".

Coming soon in the mail:

15 ml bottle each of Expresso and Cappuccino from BWB
Tobacco sample pack + small bottle of Shamrock from Halo Cigs
30 ml bottle of Ecomix, 3x Joye 306 Atomizers, 2x Joyee 306 atomizer drip tips - from Cignot
Little Bit of Everything sample pack from AIV

Seems I'm doing maybe 2 ml of juice per day now, so hopefully that will be enough to last me at least a couple of months. I've now spent almost exactly the same amount on vaping as I would have spent on cigarettes in 2 months if I was still smoking. Hopefully I won't feel the urge to buy a VV or VW unit soon...but then there's always the possibility of GAS infection. Hope that my Kanger batts will be enough for now. Decided to also wait on the 1.8 ohm heads until I'm ready to buy a Mini PT II - or a VV/VW batt.

Still not smoking, even though I have an open pack of cigarettes staring at me from our coffee table. I've read that some try a cigarette after a couple of weeks of quitting and cough their heads off. I'm curious if that's true. Maybe I'm a bit of a masochist? <grin> I'll wait at least a week - maybe two - before I try that.

Thanks for all your help. If not for all of you, I'd probably still be trying to figure out what I should do.

Dont understand why they put 2.5 coils in the Evod kits. 2.5 is gor higher than ego type batteries. I use 1.8 coils in my Evods and they are the only clearomizers i use.

You can't opt for lower Ohms in kits? That's sad.

I like 2.2-2.4Ω coils on my vv mods because higher Ohms are easier on batteries.

Katya & Kent C:

I can't find Everclear (apparently illegal in Hawaii) or Galen's 151. The closest I could find in vodka is regular 80 proof. The only 151 proof anything I could find was rum - and a bit expensive to soak clearos in anyway. I bought some cheap vodka to use in the meantime, but I was wondering if you have any other suggestions?

Think I'll order some PG soon too for cleaning an atty - they came in today. Not sure what to think about that yet - just started playing with it.

JI, I can't get everclear here either. 80 proof if clear uncolored unflavored and cheap is good too. And yeah, vodka's still better than rum that may have sugar of some sort. The 'bath' may take longer :)

I can't get it legally in CA either. ;)

But if you know where to look... Do you have any ethnic (Russian, European) markets around? :D

If you don't, you really can use 91% Isopropyl alcohol to clean your coils, but you have to either let them dry completely and/or rinse them afterwards with plenty of distilled water--and dry again. ISO evaporates cleanly and leaves no toxic residue.

Hi Kent. I'm well aware of the controversy.. I used to be in the anti camp. But I've changed my mind.

I still wouldn't recommend it to people who have other options, but I do believe it can be used safely. A thorough rinsing should be able to remove any traces, IMO.

Denture cleaning tablets (unflavored) are also a good option. I've tried them in the past.

Thanks for the links!

Jumping, please check Kent's links and make your decision based on them. Plenty of good information there.

You may also enjoy this thread. This discussion has been going on forever. :)

Understood. I just never even mention it because of what I said about people not following instructions.(not Jumpin). Plus I've been told by a friend the works at Campbells, that it can leave a film on some metals where it is hard to remove, but I have no other source on that. Besides, I haven't had anything that wouldn't clean up with vodka for at least 3 or 4 times before I pitch the coil.

Aloha Jumpin' In!

Ready for a little tutorial? ;)

Disclaimer: This is the most simplistic explanation and is addressed to new vapers mostly or vapers who are happy within the recommended "just right" power zone (4.5-8.5 watts). If you are using dual coil atomizers or are interested in high wattage vaping, it's a different conversation altogether. :) You will also have to understand the concept of amp limits and how it applies to high power vaping.

Ohm's Law as it pertains to vaping is really not that complicated--and it's very useful when you want to know what you're doing.

Voltage and wattage are often misunderstood by new vapers. Wattage is the power (heat, sweet spot) that your PV (battery and atomizer) generates. Wattage = Voltage (of your battery) squared divided by Resistance (Ω) of your atomizer [P=V[SUP]2[/SUP]/R]. If you're not good at math, don't worry, use this easy calculator:

Online Conversion - Ohm's Law Calculator

Of course, if you own a VW (variable wattage) device, you don't really need this calculator because your device will do the math for you.

The wattage you want, especially at the beginning of your vaping career, should be somewhere between 4.5 and 8.5 Watts. Anything lower than 4.5 watts may not vaporize your juice properly and will not produce enough warmth and vapor. Anything above 8.5 watts increases the risk of burning the filler in your cartomizers (if you're using them) and even some juices, especially the delicate ones.

There are, of course, other variables, like eliquid and JDD (juice delivery devices) that you're using on your batteries. Seven watts on a filler type cartomizer may feel different than the same 7 watts on a fillerless clearomizer or a dripping atomizer. The same is true for different eliquids; tobaccos, chocolate and coffees generally require more wattage (heat), while fruit and other delicate flavors do better with less heat. Everyone's sweet spot is different--those are just very general guidelines.

If you want to know more, this is a good read:

Experiment and you'll find your own bliss in no time!

The chart below is a good guide to safe vaping, even though some think it's a bit conservative.

Very well done my friend!!!!!! Very well done.
I do believe that the bottom line of vaping is set it where it feels and taste good to you. Throw the charts out with the trash. IMHO

Yeah. But before you figure out what feels and tastes good, a chart might be useful. ;)

You don't want to start experimenting at 20 watts. Or 3 watts, for that matter. :D You might get hurt--or discouraged.
