Im in a hurry but gonna read the rest later but so far it is very interesting and makes a lot of sense. I have always thought nicotine alone was not the main issue with cigs or chew. Really it is all the other chemicals, habit of actually doing it, smell, and a number of other things. Like someone else said, the nicotine gum/patches don't really satisfy any kind of craving from my experience. They may help subside some headaches or some of the cravings but it doesn't do it completely.

Its just sad to think that our nation and our government let people continue to make cigarettes/chew knowing damn well it has 0 health benefits and kills people daily. But, money is the root of all evil right. I know this is getting off topic but I just don't understand why the green grass is still illegal and tobacco and alcohol are legal? Just don't get it.

Thanks for the read. Gotta Run. :)

Great article. So many things make to consider. I can go for hours or even the whole day if I'm really busy and don't feel the need to vape. Now I understand why! When I was smoking, I couldn't go an hour. So, if the really addictive things in the cigs is the stuff other than nicotine, than why did switching to vaping feel so effortless to me? You would think that I would have still felt the craving for all of the other addictive additives. Maybe it was more in my mind than I thought?

At the least, knowing this about nicotine is a big part of the information puzzle that is solved. Thanks for sharing this with us!

I have read many articles in the past addressing these same points, and knew from the beginning of my vaping journey that it wasn't "nicotine" that caused me to continue smoking tobacco cigarettes for 40+ years. When I began vaping 2 years ago - I still went through "withdrawals" albeit not as severe as with other attempts at cold turkey many years prior. I just chose to "vape" through them....now after two years, I have lowered my nicotine from 18mg to 3mg/0mg, but still enjoy vaping everyday.

I am glad to see this type information being revealed, thank you so much for posting this.

A lot of interesting material here....but most I was aware of prior to reading...Thank you for sharing..
Having read numerous articles on ECF and elsewhere, I'd seen much of this, too, but it was good to read in a concise format and with a clear purpose. One thing I have always found fascinating (and a point made in the article) is that few studies really try to isolate the addictive effects of each of the chemicals, either in isolation or in narrowed combination, rather than just evaluate smoke as whole. It seems as if nicotine is guilty by association...

Great read and something more people should see and read. The main problem on this and really anything else is NO ONE READS or RESEARCHES anything any more. If the news media, politicos or a famous person says it is true, the public blindly goes with it. Critical thinking has become a thing of the past and the left loves that. So thanks for the read and making more aware of these things.

Smoking for me was a habit, really, that Vaping has replaced.

Nice article, good information for people to read and inform themselves. Not much new information that I didn't already know, but I tend to research stuff to death. It's been known for years that it's the other things in cigarettes that keeps people addicted to them. Why else would they add all that crap to them.

that was a great read some things i knew but boy alot i didnt!!
this for instance i did not know!
"Inhaled pure nicotine is far more potent than smoked nicotine - in fact it is 33% to 40% more effective. We know this because plasma nicotine measurements for smokers and vapers differ by this amount. A dual-user measured on different days will show a plasma nicotine level 33% to 40% lower when vaping than while smoking, for exactly the same effect (eg. 13ng vs 20ng). The vaper needs less nicotine, and not only that, will likely reduce the level over time, while maintaining the same effect."

ty for the info!

Except for the excessive repetition, it's a good article and sounds perfectly reasonable. I wish it talked a bit more about how new ideas are often dismissed by the scientific community at large, though. That's a real problem in every discipline, every aspect of science, and I've read several articles about how long things can take to change when those challenges are made, even though that is the essence of scientific method. The problem is people and politics. People are often more concerned with tenure and status than the truth since new ideas can, as the article states, ruin careers. This cannot be overemphasized as a major hurdle in the e-cig battles. Too many people rely on things not changing for progress to be made effectively and quickly.

ive always thought there was more to being addicted to cigs than just the nic.
i also believe everyone is addicted differently. my first husband and his brother could stop smoking at the drop of a hat
and it never seemed to bother them. i wish it had been that easy for me.
ty so much for the article it was very interesting to say the least.

Interesting read. I understand for the brevity that citations were not added, but I always check sources on internet material. This is not to say that I doubt the author's integrity or sincerity, I would just prefer to "chase the information." I have long suspected that nicotine alone was not the lone addictive culprit in cigarettes. Thanks for the link to this article.

Thanks for the contest, and more importantly, thanks for bringing this article to our attention. I noticed that it was written by ECF's rolygate, and want to thank him as well. It's amazing how the powers that be are ready to take our vapes but they never bother to consider asking BT, "what's in those things?" Very interesting info about nicotine!

Sorry you were ill S_Steve, and glad to know you are on the mend!
