A couple of weeks ago I saw a post by Rob showing a conversion of a VV Grand to a purely mechanical. I had my original Silver Vein VV Grand laying in a draw because it had been dropped numerous times and the chip was obviously broken. It had once before been sent it to the spa for the same reason and since I have two other VV Grands plus three Grands that I use daily it wasn't a priority. I called Rob and arranged to have him convert the Silver Vein to a Low Profile mechanical. What I received back was a LP/TRA conversion with a hammertone door. I have a Mini 2.1 in that combination and Rob and I had previously discussed how much I liked it. This again is another testament as to how far he will go to make people happy and to what a great person he truly is.

The mod is really beautiful and to me it vapes about the same as any other Grand with the sub-ohm contacts. I don't know if there is any voltage drop because of the aluminum plug but if there is it is insignificant to me.

I sent him my daughter's VV Grand last week to convert since it was no longer working.

Got it back quick all set for the 18650 use!

They do look a little strange being so tall, but function over form anytime!

I think this option is fantastic for those of us that really like the simplicity of a mechanical.

No more worries about a failing chip! No more stacking batteries! No more pairing batteries and rotating them!

A total win!

Can someone post a pic of the side where the button used to fire the mod? Is it patched? plugged? or is the hole still there?

I'm definitely considering making this conversion.

Thanks!

My daughters had a hole where the side button was located. Behind it you could see part of the delrin insert.

I found a button top made of resin and sanded it down to fit in the hole.

My daughter might find something else to do. I just tried to help till she gets it.

I am working and can't get a pic right now.

So, by looking at it, it would appear that there'd be nothing stopping you from taking that plug out and using an 18650 with a kick if you wanted a VV device. Would that be correct?

That would be correct.... ;) :) My dream REO arrived today, with the Kick 2 in mind. I really enjoy the consistency of regulated voltage / power. I had a couple of VV Grands in the past, but for various reasons of my own, didn't take to it. I have had a trusty Grand around from the beginning for the most part, and when I caught wind of Robert possibly making a Grand with an 18650 / Kick in mind... I found myself offering my services for beta testing... :D

It turned out to be a project down the road a bit for Robert, but in his usual good form, offered to construct such a mod for me using the VV Grand body... With an option to use it as a mech if needed. That certainly got my excitement up for the first time in many months after an extended absence here on ECF for personal reasons. Thanks Robert! :toast:

I have an Origen v2 & BF'er pin for this, but I also have an Orieco Storm-A which also accepted the Origen's magic pin, and to me, slightly edges in flavor... So, I'm using it for now. ;) Squonks like a dream.

I consider the Kick 2 to be Evolv's DNA 15, given it's safety features, ability to consistently fire resistances down to 0.5 Ohms, and it's true 6 amp limit. Being able to buck-down to 5 watts is a plus for me at times too.. In this LP VV Grand body, it's everything I wanted in a mod, and more.. :vapor:

Enough gushing.. Here are a couple of pics:

Hello, and "long-time-no-see" to all of my old REOville family still here, and hello to everyone else.. :)

Nice conversion rasci2, I have an idea however to make your life easier when you change batteries out. Why don't you remove the spring and screw in it's place the spacer and then screw the spring on top of the spacer so the spacer and spring are fixed to the mod. Thanks for the inspiration buddy now I know what to do to my VV Grand if the board ever packs up :toast:

I've been using the converted VV Grand for about a month and truly enjoying it. I rest the mod on my ring finger and use my thumb to fire and it's very comfortable. Currently I'm vaping the RM4 with a dual coil at .366 and it's a beast. If there is a voltage drop because of the spacer I haven't noticed it. The same set up on my Grand vapes the same to me. If anyone is on the fence about doing this I highly recommend it.

rasci2, how did you strip the paint? Did Rob replace the 510? I'm so going to do this with an old VV once I get the paint off of it.
