Converting to E Cigs with regards to Nicotine content.

Hi All ... I just registered... this forum is awesome - lots of excellent info!

I got my M401 a few days ago. Blasted through a High cart and Low cart (which it came with) the first day.

I normally smoke Belmont Lights which say on the pack "0.9-2.4 mg".
I smoked half a pack a day (10 cigarettes).

I read thoroughly through this sticky and found a lot of varying reactions.

The conclusion it looks like is "listen to your body".

The thing is, I didn't feel that satisfying nic rush like an analog, so it really wasn't curbing my cravings totally. I didn't get any OD symptoms though, like headache or nausea. It was fun puffing away, though.

Based on my intake of analogs, and if anyone else was a comparable-type smoker, can you tell me what your intake was?

I'm not expecting this to be accurate, I just want to get a rough idea of where I should be now.

Thanks much!

First off - I am a total newbie so please forgive if there is some breach on my part. I recently purchased a DSE 901 and low Marble Row cartridges. I have smoked ultralow analogs for any number of years. It seems to me that I am getting far too much nicotine from these low cartridges. I'm also not overly fond of this flavor... it seems very harsh to me. Has anyone out there had any experience with mixing low and 0 eliquid. I really don't want to take in any more nicotine than I am now. Also, I like a light tobacco flavor (maybe similar to VA slims analogs) or perhaps one w/a nutty or slightly sweet tobacco flavor. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.8-o

I heard that the Virginia or the special blend #5 or 555 is generally like that (sweet, nutty, tobacco) I cant wait to try some out myself. When my first ecig batterys finish charging for the first time I will be trying out the 555 high, which i hope are too high for me, (which would be progress). I am ready to start cutting down the nicotine, hoping I dont have to start on 36mg's haha

Found this thread again, since I was sent here after posting a similar one. But you guys are getting into dripping and iluting and such. I can't do any of that and have to rely on whatever strengths I buy. I'm still left with my original question but guess I figured out my own answer. I'd probably be taking in less nicotine with a 6 mg cartridge that takes me three days to smoke than having two or three cigs a day at 1.50 mg each. If I'm wrong, let me know. If not, then I'll just go ahead and stick with 6 and 0 and call it quits on this one.

Hi and welcome! Yes you can mix zero nicotine with low. Try half and half and see how it works. I agree with trying the 555. It's the only one my dad likes, and when I tried it, I liked it too.

You may also want to read the informative replies in my new thread in this New Members' Forum: Why is everyone so high-nicotine crazy?

As I noted in my Thank You post there:
The aha! for me (i.e., what I learned from their replies) is that I can save money by cutting the 24 or 36 mg carts/fluid with 0 mg fluid.

Although I'm still not clear on how to do that with a new full cartridge ... or how applicable this is to cartomizers (e.g., as in my KR808D-1).

My understanding is that some dripping can be done into the battery end of the cartomizer. Opening that thing up and using tweezers, however, is a bit too much for me (at least at this early stage of my vaping experience).
Also, I'm wondering if many of the newest converts to vaping (and newest members here) like me - who were brought into the fold by recent press coverage and reach-out marketing by companies such as Blu - were lighter smokers than many of the longer-term vapers. E.g., I smoked about 15 UltraLite analogs/day.

This is a very informative subject! Im totally new, like so new Im waiting on my first e cig to come in the mail! LOL So Im trying to understand all this stuff right away so I can go cold turkey from reg cigs to e-cigs.This whole cutting thing has me boggled! I have read several replies in several different subjects where a person talks about cutting the e juice. Cutting it with what?? I ordered the 18 mg , figuring its a little higher then the light 100 I usually smoke, but close enough. I have to say I enjoy smoking too much, hence why Im taking this rout vs the patch or nic gum. So its the habit along with the nic I enjoy, this seems to be perfect. But its allot to take in and understand from what Im reading. Im totally lost! LOL HELP!

Thanks a bunch,
Nicole

Hi, just reading thru the comments regarding nic content, it's looking to me like the average to heavy smoker should be going for the "low" rated carts/juice then, to avoid excess nic intake, am i right?

Depends on who you ask.

Some heavy smokers can't make it without the highest - 36mg (like me). Some do fine with much lower strengths.

You're probably just going to have to find your own "right" level, through trial and error.

How much you got from one cart depends on which ecig, and what size cart, you have. For example, the super minis only hold about .2 or maybe .3 of a ml. Minis may hold .4 or .5ml. Penstyles may get close to holding 1ml. But then again, even if a cart appears dry on the end you see, it is usually still wet further in toward the mouthpiece end - you can see that by squeezing out an apparently dry cart! So if your cart held .5ml of an 18 mg liquid to begin with, you will have used up something clearly less than 9mg of nicotine.

Then, the other factor is that even if you have a good handle on how much liquid you have actually used, you still don't know how much nicotine has been absorbed by your body. That's still an open question, needing much study and research to be answered.

So that's why I say people simply have to listen to their body - it will tell you when you've had enough nicotine to satisfy your individual needs.

Going to pick up some juice this weekend, seems it will be cheaper! Just going to start with a medium, about 14mg/ml or something. It is mg's per ml they quote the units in isn't it?

Yes, much cheaper.

Yes, technically it's mgs per gram, but as 1 gram is so close to 1ml, everyone refers to it as mgs per ml. (Caveat: Johnson Creek is the only known brand that uses a different measure - they use mg per 1.2ml, so for example, a 16mg liquid from JC will be somewhat weaker than anyone else's 16mg liquid).

This confused me at first.

The stregth , e.g. 18 mg , 36 mg., etc., refers to mg/ml.

So 18 mg juice has 18mg per milliliter of juice. So 30 ml of 18 mg juice
has 30x18= 540 mg of nicotine in it.

By the way, I used to smoke 30 cigarettes per day. I'm now vaping less than 2 ml per day of 18mg juice, so this is less than 18 x 2= 36 mg of nicotine per day. I'm very
happy with this level, but still not sure if this is less or more than 30 cigarettes, despite
reading all the discussions here. ( I smoked light cigarettes through a filter.)
