Hello ECF, jus purchased cotton balls organic USDA approved from CVS Pharmacy to be used on my kayfun lite plus. 28gauge 10wrap hitting around 1.13 , my concern is the weird taste to it. Maybe I'm trippin but it tastes like I got cotton in my mouth, is there any initial preparation before I insert the cotton in the microcoil? Thank you in advance for your replies :) +1 who can help!

I use the organic cotton balls from CVS also in my kayfun Lite and two Tebeco Kayfun Lite clones.
What I do to the cotton balls is as follows:
Boil for twenty minutes in DISTILLED water.
Drain.
Rinse with a little distilled water.
Boil a second time for twenty minutes in distilled water.
Drain.
Dry by placing cotton balls on stainless steel mesh that is sitting on top of an empty pot.(this lets air get to all sides)
I give them a couple of days to dry this way.
Seal up in a ziplock bag after completely dry.

I never mash or flatten the cotton balls during this process, as that makes them too compressed when they dry and hard to work with when wicking coils.

This is what works for me. Others have their ways to handle cotton.

For organic cotton I do boil, and use a similar method as Portertown. Maybe a bit more cycles and washes but less time in a rolling boil; I also microwave at a medium setting for ~ 2 minute intervals until dry.

Some use sterile cotton and don't boil, some use organic without boiling, so it's kinda personal preference. I bought 100% organic from CVS and noticed a very slight soap or lotion smell so I chose to treat the cotton.

If you are noticing a round cotton taste, almost like a carto, I would venture a guess that you are underwicking/singeing the wick and it may not have anything to do with boiled/unboiled cotton.

There is a thread specifically dedicated to Micro Coils and Cotton: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...micro-coils-increase-vapor-flavor-th-871.html and I am sure there is also a thread dedicated to KF/KFL builds in that (rebuildable-atomizer-systems) subforum.

Hopefully that helps.

I've never had an issue with the cotton balls from Walgreens which I purchased. Organ and pesticide free apparently though...check to see if yours are/were pesticide free. All of my cotton builds are pure flavor. Make sure your hands are clean as dry as well when you build, that way you can make sure there are no contaminants!

I dont think boiling is needed, and truthfully, if you dont take care to make EVER SO SURE you dry them 110%, you could have a serious bacteria problem on your hands. Moldy cotton.. mmmmm

Ive got a bag of MaximHygiene Cotton balls.. lots of people use that brand.. Im not sold on the whole cotton thing. I like my Silica. Im going out today and I might grab some of the sterile rolled cotton from CVS, try that out.. but, so far, I say silica is better.

Now.. I have also tried regular cotton balls.. non organic.. And THOSE, taste like a wet shirt. No doubt, tastes like wet cloth in my mouth. So, are you SURE you have cotton balls that are pure organic? No doubting you, just giving an option for your problems.
