I will say that even thou everyone is clowning on this guy....JT from vapestars and Demetri the greek both have made similar rants and although not 3 sheets to the wind I have yet to see anyone talk about there videos.... I wonder what would happen if Phil made a video about it because he and demetri are friends, Would everyone clown Phil too. I have considered moving away from cotton also because I know a couple members on here have posted some interesting info on it, But honestly its cheap and works wonders. I don't enjoy silica because of info and studies about the fibers, SS mesh can also be dangerous under certain conditions....Hemp might be my next step...But I dont want to buy into the hype as everyone on here jokes about so much!

Does someone have links to other people saying this about cotton? I Googled and didn't come up with anything.

There is a couple post on here about people using microscopes to see what happens to silica when you vape it. there is a chance that it can release fibers which can get stuck in your lungs.....i think it is similar to fiberglass and can be very harmful....I didnt follow to much and not here to start a panic I just want others to do research instead of thinking they "know it all" and sometimes we can all have an open mind and consider other peoples opinions...

No problem...I dont want anyone to get ...... at me about slandering cotton I just wish people would be more open minded about the information presented and keep the negativity to them selfs. No need to call the guy an alcoholic pot head because you dont like the message, Now if you have 100% proof he is full of crap then share that info...if not you are no better than him and just slandering someones opinion.....I could be wrong thou so Im sorry if I am!

I read the "microscope" thread, and I've read this thread...
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/health-safety-e-smoking/377764-dangers-silica-wicks.html

That thread sort of almost seems to conclude there is no danger.
That's why I wanted to know if there were actual studies.

Thank you! I *just* started using cotton a little, so I like to see what little info there is out there. His story didn't concern me too much... But then I followed the link on under the video in the comments to the Vaping Greek... That scared me a little. At the very least, I'm going to get a different brand of cotton ball. I got the Walgreens organic ones, which is what the Vaping Greek was using.

I haven't had any breathing issues and I had sever asthma to the point where I almost died about 10 years ago (left lung shut down completely and I was told I had 30% capacity left in my right lung) I figure if anyone is going to have breathing problems it will be me lol. But everyone is different. If you are having some problems breathing and you really like cotton, if you don't boil it...boil it. Switch brands of cotton, try different styles of cotton. If all else fails, just go back to another wicking material. It isn't a huge deal, other materials give you good flavor as well, however I feel cotton provides one of the most crisp flavors out there.

We really don't know if we are damaging our lungs from vaping. I'll be sticking to one wick though. Hopefully in 10 to 20 years, We'll be able to say it's 100% safe. Until then just enjoy it :)

Exactly! A lot of people seem to forget that we do not know for sure as this isn't regulated yet.

THanks for following up with the silica discussion, That was my point exactly that I might not be right but I look at it with an open mind. I went back and re-read the posts about silica and it seems they have added more to it since the last time I looked at it. Which is why having an open mind is so important, I might not feel comfortable using silica still but atleast we have more info on it as a whole. Vape on everyone!

See http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/health-safety-e-smoking/377764-dangers-silica-wicks-8.html

Essentially the chance is NON. The fibers are FAR larger and impossible to inhale. Like physically impossible. If some catastrophic accident were to occur, which is a highly unlikely thing to have happen in the first place, you would basically get a microscopic piece of silica in your throat.

It would then be swallowed.

You're right we should have an open mind, but this topic has been visited thoroughly. The guy literally counted the diameter of tiny amorphous silica fibers down to the micron and determined it would be impossible to inhale them.

I think we need to get this guy to test out cotton wicking, or maybe that whole Dr. Farsalinos study going on. Been using twice boiled organic cotton for months and I haven't breathed easier.

So this morning while looking for a youtube of a new hana modz v3 i came upon a new "dangers of cotton" video.
Cotton wick vs Eko wool: A Gravityreject thought - YouTube
The video doesn't get crazy condemning cotton but does suggest it can be problematic.
Enough to get me thinking and get me to search the topic on ECF. My rationale thought does not allow me to think that there are dangers of using the cotton as a wick and that a small amount of burning cotton in my lungs could have any significant effect on me.

But at the same time I have one friend who still smokes who's voice is in my head, he always says to me "y'know, in a few years they are going to find out that those there ecigs yer doing is worse than these here cicarettes".

Im coming off a cold/respiratory infection, when I cough up mucas, It taste like cotton. Im pretty sure (hope) that i'm imagining that though.
