About a week ago my grandma sent me a new dse 801 kit (two batteries, one atomizer, charger, 5 pack cartridges) and I entered the world of vaping. I am overwhelmed with all of the information that is available and I KNOW I want to do this rather than continue smoking (I've cut down quite a bit while using this but not completely), however, I do have some issues. I purchased some vapor from the obsidian vapor company and really enjoy the flavor but I have found lately that I have developed a persistent cough that I never had with analogues. (I smoked almost two packs a day and never had a morning cough but since I started vaping I cough with every hit and it is horrible in the mornings.... almost makes me want to switch back to the analogues, as crazy as that sounds!) Am I doing something wrong? I haven't seen anybody else complain of this. Also, when I hit this it seems extremely "air-y"-is that normal? Or am I hitting it wrong? I've also had one of the batteries already quit working so I am down to only one battery- makes quitting analogues an impossibility at this time. I am also interested in getting the best product (in both vapes and in supplies) for my money. The whole reason i wanted to try this was because it is cheaper than smoking and I can't afford two packs of Marlboro's a day anymore. For the same reason, I can't really afford to jump on buying a bunch of different styles to see what works. If there is another ecig that isn't as airy, more flavorful, more vapor, then I definetly will invest but don't want to waste money. (At first it seemed like this was producing a lot of vapor but now, not so much). Grandma has only used the dse 801s, that I am aware of, and am curious about the other products. If anyone could help me with these questions I greatly appreciate it!!!

Congrats and kudos to your grandma! I am also pretty new, but one of the themes in these threads is how to vape. Try drawing in the vapor slowly for 5 secs, hold it in your mouth and then inhale. Also check the strenght and mix of the juice in your cartos. Find some good tasting ejuice to refill them with. They might also be gettiing dry and need refilled. Good luck and keep trying.

ETA: oops I just saw that you are refilling. Check the concentration of pg to vg.

Coughing is normal as the tar starts loosening up and getting out of your lungs.
The juice may not agree with you- some folks are sensitive to vg, pg, or certain flavorings (I am).

Are you drinking a lot more than before vaping? That is crucial. As ffar as the hit, I always found the little ones to hit really light, even the 510 stick style I started with. I found that a lot of the people I helped switch had to learn to not "smoke" the pv, to draw in differently, even exhale differently. I encouraged them to experiment and find what felt better to them. All of them have stayed switched, so maybe that's something to try.
And last of all, I only stopped smoking completely after I bought a big bat (ego), because it hit more like a cigarette. You may be fine with what you have if you work with it, maybe get some different juice. Hope this helps, good luck and I'm sure lots of people will chime in with more ideas!

Hi Mandardorn and welcome to ECF.

There are plenty of good PVs around, but since you already own one, why not try to make the best out of it while you expolore other possibilites (I'm a big fan of eGos and Rivas, for instance).

I suggest you get a few IKV 801 Fusion cartomizers--they are basically Boge 510 LR cartos made with an 801 connection.

801 Fusion Cartomizer LR - IkenVape Store

Make sure you fill them up to capacity as they will burn if underfilled. See how you like them; this will also give you an idea about how the 510 PVs work.

As for your cough, it's a common symptom of quitting smoking. Here's some more: :)

Good luck and happy vaping!

I think the coughing is pretty common. I had it for a few days when I started but it went away for me and in most cases, from what I've read.

I've never used your style of ecig so I could be wrong with this comment. On the Joye 510 and the SmokeStick there are air holes where the cartomizer connects to the battery. I always choke the air flow by covering the holes with my fingers and it greatly reduces the airiness while increasing the vapor. A tip which I learned here when I first started vaping.

I was looking at my next purchase being an ego-T or a silver bullet... Seems like those two are favorably recommended on the posts that I have read here. Thank you guys for your responses! Now I'm curious over the way that I am hitting it... seems like that could be the issue as well as needing to investigate into the vg, pg.... now that I think about it I didn't cough so much on the vapors that I got before making the obsidian order... hmmm...

I'd go with this over the eGo T myself: Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510 It comes with a usb charger, but not the wall adapter for it. If you go with this, PM me, I'll gladly send you the wall adpter so you don't have to charge it on your computer if you don't want to. Best wishes.

if you decide to go with this (I like my riva) be sure and click on the 20% off thing at the top of the page before you put anything in your cart

In my opinion it depends a lot on the juice. I am still quite new to this, had briefly quit last summer and again now. I had ordered a bunch of small sampler juices last summer and although some were ok, they were not what I was looking for. We have a local shop here where I was able to try before I buy and I found the Menthol Burst and to me it feels like I am smoking a real cigarette
Premium USA V-Liquid - Menthol Burst
I used to smoke camel menthol silvers and this juice is even better then the camels :D
But menthol is not everyone's thing.
I have a 510 and recently upgraded to the Ego which is a little bigger and more powerful. The Ego is better, but without the right juice it still sucks somewhat. So I would suggest order juice samplers - maybe even from different vendors as it can make a difference. Unfortunately nobody can really tell you what juice to get cause what works for one may not work for you. :(
That is just my opinion though..... I think with the right juice any e-cig can work, and then you can still upgrade later.
Good luck!!!!

I apologize if this is off the mark, but "airy draw" as far as I understand means low density vapor, low flavor and throat hit, right? While everything stated above by others would improve vapor quality and throat hit, I must say that the most common cause of an airy draw is probably an improper inhalation. If you "drag" from the PV in a similar way as with cigarettes it will give out an "airy draw". Long, soft drags, with little "negative pressure", taking the vapor into your mouth until you feel a little warmth or texture on your tongue, and only then inhaling is the most effective technique afaik.

I borrowed a roughstack from a friend because of my broken 801 and I think I do like the 510 set up better. Thanks everyone for all of the information!! I think it was partially me not inhaling properly and partially being a little dissatisfied with the 801. I'm so thankful this exists and all of you gave me such great information!!
