Ok, so, I am loving the juice that I have gotten, at least the ones I've tried so far. Letting some steep because that's whats been suggested... Anyways.... Here is the problem....

i cannot stop coughing. Every time I take a drag off of the cig I cough when I inhale. I have tried holding it in my mouth then inhaling.... Will this go away? I did notice that when I took a drag from hubby's pro tank, I didn't cough. It's only with the EVOD & the Vivi Nova.... Is it possible it's the tanks? Am I destined to only use pro tanks? What is up with this? I am so excited about the journey into vaping & do not want to get discouraged. Will the coughing stop? By the way, the juice in hubby's tank has the same PG/VG ratio as what's in mine, so I don't think that's it...

Thoughts?
Suggestions?

I think most vapors cough a lot initially. It seems a lot of the vapors have forgetten that, or they were among the many who had a smooth transition from smoking to vaping.

It took your body some time to adjust to smoking without coughing, and it will take it some time to adjust to vapor. I've been vaping for over a year, and my first few vapes of the day I still cough, which goes away completely for the rest of the day.

It sounds like your technique is proper. No straight inhales into the lungs, but using it like a straw in a thick milkshake. It's also not necessary to inhale vapor to get the effects of nicotine. Nic in vapor is absorbed differently than from smoke (different size molecules). So inhale into your mouth, and blow out through both your mouth and nose if coughing continues to be an issue. Gradually attempt to inhale some into your lungs over time to make the transition easier.

Drink plenty of WATER. Pg and Vg both pull water from our mouth and lungs which needs to be replaced.

You also may prefer a "cooler vape". The top-coiled clearos will provide a warmer vape (Vivi Nova). The bottom-coiled clearos will provide a cooler vape (Protanks).

E-liquids that have a higher Pg can be more irritable to some vapors, so they end up using a higher Vg or all Vg eliquid.

My very first vape I felt like I was going to cough my lungs up. Second & third wasn't much better. I think it was because I was treating it like an analog and taking short, deep drags. I started taking slow, steady drags and using it more like a cigar and not inhaling into my lungs, although I'm sure I did a little bit. Vaped into mouth and out through nose. In a way it's like I had to retrain myself. Even now, 8 weeks into this, I'll cough when using certain juices. Typically 18mg coffee flavors. I stepped down to 12mg and enjoy it much more than 18mg. Funny thing is, I have Irish Creme & Brownie flavors at 24mg and those don't make me cough. Go figure.

I coughed A LOT my first few days vaping. I thought maybe at first it was a PG reaction, but its subsided after those first few days. Now I only cough if it's an airy or otherwise bad hit.

I would guess it was largely due to the difference in smoking vs vaping. I know you're aware of techniques since you mentioned holding it before inhaling. I've never used a ProTank, so it's interesting you don't cough with it. I'd say give it a few days to get used to before considering it anything more than adjustment.

I couldn't even just -breathe- without coughing as a smoker. Three weeks later vaping and I can already tell my lungs are healthier. I wish you success!

Don't you remember when you first started Smoking?
Cough Cough choke choke?
Learning curve, not gear.

You need to SLOW down and take Soft Easy draws. you will still slip time to time and get choked but in a short time you will become accustomed to the easier inhale of Vaping.
Also try drawing(easy) into your mouth then inhaling into the lungs.

Your Body is also going to fight changes for a while, but that also passes quickly.

ETA - Marlboros 45 yrs - My first weeks took tiny draws(2-3 seconds) and choked like crazy. Used 6-10 drops of e-liquid a day - lol
Now I feel comfortable on a nice mod taking 6-8 second draws of a nice warm Vape. Mmmm...Apple Pie

If you recently quit smoking expect increased coughing for a few months regardless of vaping habits. As all the paralyzed cilia start to function again they will start sweeping up all kind of junk from your lungs. It may seem like your getting wose, but in fact your respiratory system is working better than it has in years!
