However, no matter what I try, vaping makes me cough like crazy and gives me a sore throat.
Any ideas why? Is it just a matter of getting used to something new? Too much PG or VG?
I started with 100% VG, don't cough (never did on analogs either), but my mouth burned away, and gave me mouth ulcers.
So i stopped for a week and started again, same only abit less. I thought it was from getting ejuice in my mouth. So i stopped again.

Third try now, and everything is gone, no problems what-so-ever. My guess is that your mouth just has to get used to the new experience.

(This is just my experience, few things to note: Try different stuff, drink during vaping, try different toothpaste)

I'm convinced in my case it is the PG, I had a small sampler that was less than 4% PG and I have been vaping this for the past hour or so and I can feel a difference in my throat, not that it is getting better but the pain is not as intense. I could not take more than two hits of the 100% PG without having enough pain that I had to stop. I've got 60 ml of 100% PG that should be in my mailbox tomorrow! 18mg Marlbro and 24 mg of unflavored 100% PG I was going to use to add to some flavored stuff I bought, I really like the TH from PG but I am going to put it aside for now. I may just try to trade or sell it, is that allowed here?

I'm using the Joye eGo and Kretek e-juice from TastyVapor, though I've also tried Clove and Fire & Ice from Pure Smoker. However, no matter what I try, vaping makes me cough like crazy and gives me a sore throat. Oddly enough, my analogs do not. (Djarum Black Menthols)

Any ideas why? Is it just a matter of getting used to something new? Too much PG or VG?

I just started vaping a week ago, so please forgive me if this all sounds silly. I'd really love to stop smoking cigarettes, but if this is the e-cigarette alternative, I just can't make this work. All suggestions welcome.

I don't recall where I read it... but I did read that vaping high PG based juice can also cause a thin coating in the throat/mouth and dries the areas out. I personally rinse/gargle with mouth wash when I feel a little dryness in my mouth or throat and then drink a bottle of water, then resume vaping. 9 times out of 10, I feel perfectly fine after.

Apt, question? When you cough, do you have phlegm? DOes it have like brown spots in it? If so, this is normal. The brown spots is the tar coming out. I have it too and I have been without a analog for 2 weeks today. The sore throat will pass. YOur body is trying to get use to, to the change, from analogs to e-cigs. I hope this helps you. Best wishes to you.

Hi. Just started vaping yesterday. I started on a coffee flavor 6mg ejuice. I was also smoking analogs but sparingly throughout the day. Early into vaping I had gotten a sore throat. I knew I didn't have analog withdrawl, or too high of a nicotine count. I wasn't vaping a lot, but it was def the ecig.

I read the replies here and tried doing what Red Skare suggested taking out the white filler & doing direct dripping. Now, I'm half way into the day & no sore throat even tho I had woken up with a slight one. Thanks Red Skare! Hopefully that was it.

I just started vaping about a week ago. I've noticed the higher PG juice makes my throat and chest hurt and induces coughing. I kind of switch back and forth b/t 50/50 pg/vg and 100% vg. Of course, I started vaping right when I got a sinus/chest cold, so I didn't know if the sore throat was from vaping or from the cold. It's definitely from the vaping as the cold is gone, but I use the PG juice (menthol) when I feel like I need a cig (I'm assuming from nicotine addiction) and the VG juice for the hand to mouth satisfaction.
The VG is much easier to vape, but I got it at 6mg of nicotine and it's cappuccino flavored.
The PG/VG mix is menthol and 16mg of nicotine.
I bought the VG mix after I did some research and saw that some people are allergic to the PG (that would be my luck! I'm allergic to random things!) But it seems that lots of people have the coughing/sore throat/etc., from just starting to vape.
I know this isn't exactly helpful information as far as informative (I think Brooke provided the most info, THANKS BY THE WAY!! :D) but I guess I just wanted to say I'm right there with ya!
I haven't had an analog in a week XD YAY!

Here's a couple of ideas:

• Vaping is done differently than smoking. With smoking you seal your lips around the filter and take a short hard drag, with vaping you lightly put your lips to the end and gently, slowly, take a looong soft drag (like 3-5 seconds) into your mouth and then inhale it into your lungs.

Rosa, you rock! I've been doing it wrong! I've been having the same problem with coughing (although it never made me want to stop, I just thought I had to get used to it). I read elsewhere about the long draw, but apparently, I've been wrapping my lips very tightly around the cart or tank (depending on which PV I'm using) and sucking way too hard (maybe that's why I could empty a cartridge on my 510 in a few minutes - I switched to an ego-t, but I'll try the 510 again when I get home). I just tried the way you wrote, and it was awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

If anyone has sore throat then get better juices and don't be excessive with nicotine level or amount of time vaping until you get better juices. Nicotine is a skin irritant and that includes your tongue, throat and lungs. PG does very little to buffer the irritation. It's usually not bad if you just use it until your get some PG/VG juices. Get some juices with at least 30% VG (70PG/30VG) and try those.

And if you are in a country where you can only buy the Chinese juices then you can buy 30ml of a juice in PG and 10ml of it in VG and same nicotine then mix them to get 75pg/25vg in the same nicotine level.

And new people w/ low resistance or high voltage etc - don't be excessive with the heat of vaping until you get better juices.

If it's not the juice, coughing and a sore throat are a common symptom of quitting smoking. There are a few articles in the health section.

"Within a very short period of time after you stop smoking, your lungs will begin to clear themselves out. Smoking can cause the cilia in your lungs to burn and not function properly. Cilia are tiny hairs in your respiratory system that actively move or “pump” mucous out of it in order to clear it up. If these are not functioning properly, the mucous can build up. When you quit smoking, the function of the cilia returns to normal and at the same time your body actively clears the lungs of mucous at a faster rate. As this mucous goes out of your lungs and down your esophagus, it is carrying all sorts of bacteria and irritants that may result in a sore throat. Many smokers report this as a positive feeling as they are feeling their body rid itself of all the bad stuff from their lungs despite a slightly sore throat that may result."

I never had a sore throat but my mother did the first couple of weeks. Try a milder juice. If you like tobacco flavored juice, Virginia from Backwoods Brew is very smooth.

thank you for this info...
