Hi again. Well I got all my new goodies from V4L including VG vanilla juice 11mg plus 8mg as a freebie. I decided to try the 8 mg first and here I go again Coughing, coughing, etc. I switched from PG to VG after research & advice from the forums. I've watched all the videos, read all your great tutorials, followed threads for newbies, even stood in front of the mirror to make sure I'm dragging slowly enough, taking it into my mouth then inhaling. The coughing happens as soon as I inhale. If I take less in sometimes I don't cough until I exhale.
I know there's a learning curve but how long did you all cough?

It is entirely possible that I'm too dumb to vape!

Is the coughing worse, better, or the same with 100% VG? Was the liquid to which you reacted 100% PG or a PG/VG mix?

I know that there are a lot of people who are sensitive to PG and need to use 100% VG, but I cough and cough if there's too much VG in my liquid (and while we might be a minority, I'm not alone in my sensitivity to VG). If your original attempts were with a mix of the 2, you might want to try 100% PG to see if that will help at all.

Is it every flavor or just some? I know that particular flavors will do that to me as well.

Sorry I can't be more helpful!!

Are you using auto batteries? I don't like them. Ask anybody. haha

I think it is easier to control the size and heat of your drag with manual batteries. Press the button in before the start of your drag then about 1-1.5 seconds later start dragging, then 1-2 seconds before the end of your drag let up on the button, continue dragging out the now-cooler vapor that is already made. Let a bit out of your mouth for your nose to catch and inhale bringing some extra fresh air after. Try small drags. With the manual at least the last vapor to enter your mouth will not be the hottest.

I will say some of their flavors are pretty strong. Their WOW Vanilla and WOWBacco have a fairly sharp edge to them and they come in WOW carts which are the hotter carts (which I am now appreciating greatly at 4mg!). You can try prefills from Bloogplanet and Smoketip too. And you could also buy Vapor4Life Coolcart blanks and fill them with juices you get elsewhere. I recommend 70pg/30vg 80pg/20vg or anything around there. I like Backwoods Brew Vanilla Bean and Peach and the Blueberry is nice too. I think in general you will find Backwoods Brew's juice to be less intense and good all-day vapes.

And you could consider trying a different e-cigarette for starting out because Vapor4Life is prized for its good TH for a slim ecig (which is not a good feature for you). I also use Joye 510 manual (short charge length of 180mah, same as a V4L shorty), Joye 510 mega xl manual (8mm longer than V4L standard and same 280mah charge). I use them with Boge standard resistance blank cartomizers which are very nice and give a good amount of vapor but smoother hit than Vapor4Life. When I was vaping 11mg, I could not vape the WOWbacco in the V4L prefilled cart - it was just too sharp-edged. SO I bought the liquid and vaped it in a Boge carto on the manual 510 and it is wonderful. I am still doing that at 4mg.

The coughing is about the same as it was when I was using SmokeTip 100%PG Regular/tobacco flavor 18mg & 6 mg.
I also had a Smoking Everywhere kit with both tobacco & vanilla PG flavors in nic strengths from 18mg down to 0mg. Cough was a little less intense with that one but still there.

I now have auto V4L batteries & prefilled WOWcartomizers. The Vanilla smells & tastes great but the cough is more than annoying.

I'm a big water & decaf coffee drinker so I do that anyway.

As a long term smoker I surprizingly do not have a "smoker's cough" anything like some people I know. I cough a little with my first A.M. cig not much to speak of... but nothing like this vaper cough, I take a drag on the e-cig, slow & med- long, inhale & cough over & over (yes it brings up phlegm).

How long should it take to get the hang of this? It's so discouraging to read about people who pick up an e-cig & never touch an analog again and here I am hacking like a fool.

When I first started vaping I found that I couldn't directly inhale like I did with a cigarette.
I wound up using my ecig similar to what I assume a cigar smoker does, puff on it, get a mouth full of smoke, blow it out. As I got more used to it I found myself more able to inhale the vapor.
I also went through a phase where I was "french inhaling"?? through my nose from my mouthful of vapor (this tends to make my nose run when I am using peppermint). I think it was similar to when I started smoking (what I can remember of that long ago time). I don't think I could inhale the smoke well at that time either... but I kept at.
My throat and lungs could tell the difference between smoke and vapor, which I wasn't expecting.... and didn't like the change.... at first....
Not sure how long it took to get used to the vapor and for every 100 people that try it I think there are probably that many reactions.
Don't get discouraged... it does have a learning curve.... but it is worth it...

Remind me please how long you've been vaping? Just vaping or smoking too?

Is it possible that this is still your lungs clearing the residue of smoking? I know that when I first started I coughed a lot ... some was due to not smoking and the normal symptoms of that, some was due to not quite having the hang of vaping, and some was due to liquid and flavor reactions. Especially since your cough is still productive, I think this is quitting related.

Not sure what model a SmokeTip is, I think some variant of 510, correct? The V4L VK will be a hotter vapor therefore greater th therefore greater chance of resultant cough. Small drags is about all I can suggest ... oh, and being open to try PG again in case your cough is still your lungs clearing.

I couldn't inhale like a cigarette smoker does either. As a former cigar smoker I just drew into my mouth and slowly let most of it go, inhaling some through my nose and then inhaling the remainder. I find I vape in a similar fashion, always letting some go, inhaling some via the nose so I can get that wonderful flavor that you don't get by just inhaling. I can take full hits now without coughing, which I couldn't do in the beginning. My lungs aren't as sensitive now as they were. I'm using mostly tobacco flavors in 24-36mg finding that I like a mix of somewhere around 70/30 pg/vg. Best of luck, hang in there!

When i first started vaping, not that long ago, that first week or two, my congestion increased dramatically. it got so bad I stopped vaping for a few days until it cleared up(unfortunately went back to analogs for that time and am not recommending that to you here) and then restarted vaping with a mix of pg/vg juice. previously i had been using straight vg and not knowing the difference(noob) until i visited this site.

After my restart i did still have congestion, but not so bad. Now six weeks later i do still have some congestion, but minimal. I have to mention that i did have congestion while i was smoking analogs, but usually only at night.

Everything is better, and i know i feel better because of this journey, and plan to continue. This is something that is working out great for me and i know if you persist, you will find some level of the same value that i have.

Good luck and keep trying.

I'm still smoking just as much as I was. I try to vape several times a day and have been for about 1+1/2 months.
I will try all of your suggestions hoping to find myself quiting analogs for good.
All the videos I've seen it seemed like a lot of vapor was just being blown out not inhaled so I'll do that until I get some juices both PG & VG in flavors other than Vanilla. I have to do this b/4 I drop the 2b from Nana this Fall. My first grandchild is my biggest incentive to make this work.

Thank you all so very much! I'll let you know how it goes every few days. You're great :)

Keep your oral cavity moisted.
Try blocking the vapor with your tongue when you inhale, a barrier between vapor and your oral cavity, avoid direct contact, especially throat. ie. Draw with your tongue slightly over the ecig.
After a while, you'll adjust, get use to it. Then you can do it the normal way.
At least, that's my experience.

You need to try another brand (or two) of e-liquid. If you get it in bottles with a dripper top, you can refill your V4L cartos by popping off the soft white cap and dripping a few drops down the side. Don't drip liquid centrally, onto/into that small centre hole (it's the air passage and will cause a leak).

I suggest you email a couple of specialist liquid vendors and ask them specifically for a very mild liquid. Get small sampler bottles.
