Hey guys, I was wondering something, I'm using SAMSUNG ICR18650-22F, I heard about how unsafe they are but I've been using it over a month now and don't see anything wrong with it until recently started reading these battery threads carefully. And am now worried, that I've been lucky all this time? But my question is, could it explode without any leaking from the battery while vaping like instantly?

Is this an unprotected Lithium-ion battery?
I believe they are protected, but not certain.

Either way, it looks unsafe to draw above 5 amps from them, and your .08-1ohm coil is drawing about that and probably a little more. I would recommend upgrading to an IMR battery asap. See Sony VTC3 4 or 5, or LG HE2.

I have no idea about voltage or any of that stuff, it's just numbers and letters. But you're not alone in your worry. I worry about mine too, and what I've learnt is keep an eye on it, keep it away from pets (as in don't let it charge 3ft near a pet bed or pet chill out zone) and use a battery pack to charge it in.

I'm using nemesis mod and kayfun lite+ with 0.8-1ohm if that matters

The Samsung 18650-22F is an ICR battery, so it will have less than a 3 amp continuous discharge rate. A 0.8 ohm coil using 4.2 volts (fully charged battery) will pull 5.25 amps from the battery, which is way over the limit of the Samsung. For your safety and others, please do not do this! reference - ohms law calculator

Use only an IMR or IMR/hybrid battery. These will have at minimum 10 amps.

Below is a video of an ICR battery going into thermal runaway. It doesn't explode instantly, but it does explode none the less.

No video.. didn't think of it, and I didn't have another set of hands to hold phone for video. I don't have any discoloration ay positive end, but I have random spots all over battery, and a good chunk of discoloration near common contact.

Very interesting. As you can see, these are smaller and more distinct spots than the rest of us get with these batteries. IMO what you experienced is not due to the same process and this is the first time I've seen this. What did it look like under the wrapper?

Also wondering where you bought them from.

Thanks for sharing :)

I got them on vapordna, 3 for $30.. battery was stamped with same numbering as wrapper. Took the wrapper off, and they were little black oily spots. I can only imagine it being e-liquid..I just don't understand how they're pretty isolated, don't appear on the top of any of the batteries with them, and the spots are practically the same exact size..weird.. 4/5 of these vtc5's have this.

I didn't get any of these spots on my vtc4..and it seems like the vtc5's are pretty reactive to atmospheric conditions. Same load, same battery on a different day..different reaction to being fired. Today was ~100°f, don't know humidity, but I'm in Alabama, so you need to have gills on.. I wasn't outside with my batteries, but they've been running really hot today, especially with long pulls-0.35ohm.. I didn't have any heat flair up from any of them at all yesterday.

I always measure my builds several times during assembly, and I typically confirm with another meter.. even though I can visually inspect and see no shorting- with coil at least.
