I've recently made the switch (almost 100%) to vaping from analogs.

As a 3 pack a day smoker for almost 20 years, I'm VERY excited about this technology. It's literally a lifesaver.

So I've been seeing the notifications about the FDA and congress.

Here's the thing.

I don't care what your political beliefs are, they aren't trying to regulate this stuff for anyone's "health". They either want a cut of the action or they want to remove the competition from tobacco and big pharma. Either way, I don't think any amount of petitions will change whatever they decide to do.

If they somehow try to make it illegal, my question is has the community come far enough to keep vaping going, despite whatever legislation they throw at it?

For example, can you build a PV from scratch? Order the parts, fabricate them, whatever.

Same with the juice. If they ban the sale of e-liquid or liquid nicotine can people make their own, say distilled from tobacco or whatever?

Say a bill was passed overnight that virtually outlawed e-cigs, has the knowledge and technology come far enough that someone who may decide that how they quit smoking isn't up for legislation could essentially do everything they need to keep vaping on their own?

I'm not specifically advocating breaking any future laws. Just curious if vaping *could* survive in sort of an underground DIY fashion?

Thanks!

Anytime the government gets involved in anything nothing good happens. They think they know what is best for everyone, but they don't. I doubt a full scale ban will happen, but you never know. You can definitely buy all the parts to build your own mod, and you can buy all the ingredients to make your own juice.

Hi. This is my first post in the forum.

I am a 30 cigarette smoker for almost 40 years now. I have just tried the e-cigs and really think I will be saved from the tobacco burning and inhaling by this wonderful alternative. But I am in the United Arab Emirates, a small country in Arabia where e-cigs are not very much in use and where the authorities are not keen on them as well. They follow the FDA usually. So I am trying to secure e-juice for myself and will also try to get some extra to help others.

Now with regards to what Scott is saying, how large is the vaping community in America? What about taking to the streets and doing some real action on the ground instead of just emailing? I think with actions like these, the community will get a better media coverage and will encourage the society as a whole to stand by the cause as it is obviously working and saving lives.

I would say you should camp outside the congress or wherever you would get attention by the masses and make as much noise as possible out there.

Peace

Where could I find out how to make my own nic juice?

Like the success they've had with the war on drugs or prohibition!

I don't think the demand is as great yet as it is for illegal drugs and alcohol but I think the demand for e cigs is growing everyday as new people try it. E cigs could grow exponentially as friends tell friends who tell friends, it could spread like wild fire. I think it already kind of has taken off.

I would think you could sell e cig products over the internet and ship them from off shore locations into the US or from any free countries still standing, maybe like China where it seems like everyday they are getting more free as we are getting more Communist!

I do drink, not becuase the government says I can but becuase I like it. I don't do drugs anymore, not becuase the government says I can't but becuase I feel it's better for me if I don't. Screw the government I'm tired of their crap. I like e cigs they make it easier to breath, they are cheaper, and they have better flavors than cigarettes. What exactly is government going to do if they catch me? I doubt they can throw you in jail for e cigs. Also how are they going to catch me? Sure they can intercept mail but it will probably be difficult to get caught and become a cat and mouse game that I'd rather have to play then give up my e-cigs.

Hopefully enough non-smokers are tired of seeing our freedom taken away and will oppose any silly restrictions on them and then I'll support their right to drink big gulps even though I rarely drink soda.

At the moment I don't think you need to do that, but if you insist, then you can buy flavorless nicotine with a high strength and cut it with PG/VG liquids and add some flavoring to that, shake it well and let it steep for a week or two. You can find vendors for the stuff you want to mix from many vendors online.

But if there is a ban or restrictions, then it will be difficult to find vendors supplying the stuff online.

A Vape-in sounds cool. Course we'd probably have some hippies show up to "support" us with their vaporizers and then they'd get beat down starting a riot that spews into the streets.......but its a nice thought

Would be a cool story though got this scar at the 13 vape riot!

Woudnt be any fun beating up on the hippies, we all know they have more estrogen than testosterone thanks to their choice of illicit botanicals anyway.... sorry Ripple :-

They can by outlawing e-juice in it's form. They can't outlaw ingredients tho.
They can outlaw PV, but they can't outlaw parts.
They won't outlaw it. They will find a way to tax it and milk industry if it goes on gaining popularity with each day.

As I see it, the main ingredient they will be after is the nicotine concentrate. It is a very easy thing to mix if you have the base nicotine liquid. And without it, there is no e-juice.

Yes, the government could kill vaping. But since the FDA is proceeding to regulate nicotine vaping as a tobacco product I can't see that happening.

FDA forms most of it's regulations based upon science based industry and medical input. I'm watching out for big tobacco as they move into the market. Big tobacco would prefer to limit vaping to pre-filled atomizing devices and will probably advise FDA to ban nicotine base carriers for DIY and bottled liquids for refillable atomizing devices. This may be the biggest threat to vaping as we know it.

You can place a comment on this doc. The more, the merrier. Not that it will do anything when big lobbying and huge money is involved. But still...

I read RJ Reynolds comment on the doc an realized exactly what yzer is talking about above me. They want to cut out competition, and doing so holding the banner of safety. It's sickening. They want their cigarettes on a level playing field for price competition. That's all it is from what I can see.

And, imo, the FDA will listen and do so. Not because of the public good, but because the government and it's bureaucracies are broken and owned by whatever sector funds them the most.
