Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
Personal preference, state taxes, import bans. Now that the FDA has declared these items tobacco products, it makes it that much easier for states to simply determine an equivalent tax for these new "tobacco products".

See Utah, online purchases of vapor products have been banned since July 1st. All purchases must be made face to face. This ensures the state collects not only sales tax, but also any future tax levied on vapor products.
Thank you very much .

I read somewhere that the US might be 43% of the global vape market in dollars (we are only 4% of the smokers in the world). So it's predictable that there would be more new products to beat the 8-8 deadline. But may be the vape market world wide will grow by more than the US share in the next few years. New products won't stop just because Americans aren't supposed to buy them.

America probably is the single biggest Market in dollars but has only 4% of the smokers. America is not the center of the universe and not the center of the vaping Universe either. There will be research and development and new products and we won't get them. I describe us as the Cuba of vaping.

If the US is the single biggest market in dollars representing ~40% of revenue and it's cut off, do you really expect companies to remain in business at all? I don't know any manufacturer who can afford to see 40% of their business shut down but hope to make it up in other markets. So there may only be 4% of total smokers worldwide in the US, but with even a lower percentage of vapers in the US (there are fewer vapers than smokers for now) the US generates almost half of all sales. Last figures I saw were something like $6 Billion USD in revenue for 2015 (given that lots of companies are private it's hard to get that as firm), that would represent a loss of ~$2.5 Billion dollars.

Can Joytech and eLeaf (along with many others) really continue to develop new products at the rate currently seen (and I mean the last few years, not the sudden glut release of this month) with that kind of market contraction? If they're knocked out of the US completely in 2018, do you truly believe they will find other markets to make up that large a gap? And as far as US manufacturers that answer does not require any speculation, they're simply gone.

They (China) will just layoff workers, and continue to supply the rest of the world.
Evolve saw the writing on the wall last year, and started selling boards to China manufactures.

I agree in general that the manufacturers will lose a lot if the U.S. market shuts down, but a lot of their mods and tanks will end up in the U.S. anyway, through the black market or grey market. The percentage of U.S. sales compared to world wide will go down, but a decent percentage of their product will end up in the U.S. anyway imo.

    Don't see why they Can't?

In fact, if they Didn't, that would have a Big Effect on their Bottom Lines. Because who wants to keep buying Yesterday's e-Cigarettes?

Not say'n that BV is not going to take a Hit to their Profits. But I don't see them shutting their doors because the US Market goes Belly Up.

BTW - If BT can make Closed System Cig-a-Likes, and do PMTA's for them, why can't Joytech or eLeaf?

I was thinking about that too. What, if any, kind of black market might develop. [Removed]

    Major vape gear flood happening!.
Geekvape is coming out with an extensive line-up of mods as is vapeonly.
I just looked at these websites. Looks like lots of cool stuff in the works. It's kind of bold to introduce a bunch of new products that could be disallowed in 2 years or less.

    Hack Box Mod - VapeOnly.com
4-18650s and 300 watts. Who vapes at 300 watts?

All the new models coming out in the last weeks before 8/8 will sell well over the next year or so and will be what everybody stocks up on that hasn't yet found the setup they prefer. I also think many Chinese manufacturers are expecting that legally or not US vapers will continue to order.

I'd buy that almost just for battery life on its own. I would never vape that high. But with a simple kanger subtank that box would probably last me a week without charging. And that would be pretty sweet.

Starting 8-8 companies can continue to sell existing products to the US. Then they have two years to adjust to possible loss of access to the US market. US companies can continue to make any products for export after 2 years. During that two years the world market may grow so losing the US market may not hurt so much.

Hahahahahaha!!!! You made me bust out LMAO this early in the morning!!
More times than not when people say "poser" it's meant to give a negative perception; not someone posing for a pic. 7.5 watts......I'm in stitches here!!!!
