Curious - coughing up mucus

ok, look. i'm not ......ed. i know this eventually would happen, but let me explain a little further.
i've been off smokes for 2 weeks or so. i vape regularly. i can breathe, i've been doing some running, i feel great. until the other day, i started coughing up mucus and phlegm.

i'm not having problems breathing, which if i was sick when i was smoking, i usually can't breathe at all while all of this is going on. now my voice is becoming hoarse (can't hit high notes when i sing) and i'm just trying to figure out if this could be from me quitting smoking or if i'm becoming a little under the weather.
the only reason i can't tell is because like i said before, if i became sick when i was a smoker, i literally couldn't breathe, always taking my inhaler, etc. i've been off e-cigarettes for 2 weeks and haven't had to use my inhaler once. i have asthma.

any thoughts?

It's perfectly normal. The syndrome you're going through is called "Quitter's Flu," and it's quite common. There are probably hundreds of threads here on ECF dealing with this phenomenon.

It should go away within a few weeks. If it doesn't, then contact your primary care physician.

congrats on your quitting analogs.

you said you could breathe better, so it's sounding to me like all that crap that has been in your lungs, is now coming out..
my husband coughed up crap for awhile.

it's a good thing really and I wouldn't be surprised if you could throw your inhaler away sometime in the future!!!

but if it continues and you feel worried, go to your doctor, absolutley!!!

Hey Charles Im no expert, but i did have a very similar experience as you did. After about the first week of vaping I started to cough almost every time i inhaled and had mucus come up, and my throat was always kinda sore, like I had a very dry throat. I dont know if it went away cuz my body got used to it or because i started using higher VG, lower PG juices.

I did just try some higher PG juice and it kind of irritated my throat and made me cough, so i would suggest using a higher VG and see how your body reacts. Its all a learning and growing experience.

Good luck, I hope you feel better.

if by VG you mean the voltage regulation, i use a torpedo and it goes all the way up to 4.8. which is what i use :D as for the nicotine, i stick with the 24mg. don't need to go higher
oh, and thanks. it feels so good quitting smoking. even though i'm coughing up all kinds of crap. i can look at other people and be like "man, i'm glad i'm not that person." especially since i'm having a kid soon.

I had no idea there was such a Syndrome. I guess Charles and I aren't alone.

MarkMarkMark678, if you do a search here on ECF using "withdrawal," you get an even 5,000 results. Even "Quitter's Flu" gets you a hundred or so, and the search engine will only return those threads with that exact spelling.

VG or vegetable glycerin will give a vapor more well, vapor!!
PG or Propolene Glycole will give you a throat hit.
so no matter how long you have been vaping any mix with a higher PG will give you a stronger throat hit, which a lot of new vapor's look for, since a good lomg draw on a marlboro gave you just that.

now PG irritates a LOT of people, different reactions, do your research....

You will prolly see a lot of suggestions to drink LOTS of water, this will help with clearing the toxins from your body as well as keep your throat moist.

I like to exhale the vapor through my nose as you would a nice pipe and I'm flushing out my sinuses slowly one puff at a time. I'm getting crusties that drive you nuts cause you then have to make the pick look like a scratch especially in public.:)
Its only been 9 days of vaping and I can start to feel 35 years of smoking starting to loosen up in the lungs.

You body is cleaning itself out. From smoking you built up a lot of nasty stuff in your lungs, tar etc. If you had really bad lungs from smoking like I did, it will be awhile before you get all that bad stuff out. I quit over 3 years ago, and I too coughed up a lot of nasty stuff. It goes away and your lungs will start to heal. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
