Customs checking shipments WITHIN the USA!?!

I was just told that an order I placed with a well-known US e-cig supplier (who shall remain annonymous for the moment at least, lest I fan the flames...) did not reach me because "customs is actually scanning packages for these(locally) now".

Is it just me, or is this the most ridiculous excuse ever heard? How could customs be involved in any way with a shipment within the United States? Is there any possible truth to this? Has anybody ever heard anything like this?

Customs searches are at the border . . . if you're talking about any searches within the U.S. (i.e., not coming in from out of the country), you need warrants/probable cause . . . you know, those safeguards we hold so dear.

Rsngfrce- It Can't --Period. It either makes it through Customs or it does not. Once it is released from Customs, there is no "scanning", so I think you got some vape blown your way---Sun

OK... I ordered a Janty Dura-C through Esmoking101's pre-sale special as advertised on the forum ( http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ng101-com-helping-them-run-special-promo.html ).

I was sent an e-mail last week stating that all orders were sent out on Monday and I would have my order by Wednesday. I still do not have it...

After some questioning of why my order has not arrived, I have now been e-mailed by Tristan of Esmoking101 that Jeff of Janty told them that my order was one of 3 'lost' by the post office. They go on...

It seems "lost" is meaning, customs is actually scanning packages for these(locally) now, so please bear with Janty while they ship them again. The recent publicity E-Cigarettes are getting is causing many issues for shipments and I am sorry your package was one of them. "

i believe the operative word in that definition is IMPORTS!!

customs has not a thing at all to do with standard internal US mail... IF.. and this is a big IF anybody stopped it.. it would be the postal service itself... and that is not likely at all..

can you even imagine federal customs having to hire at least a million new people to inspect domestic mailings?... what unemployment crisis??

Sorry, can't happen. DEA, FDA, any number of enforcement agencies at this point could get involved if they deem it their business, but I can assure you US to US isn't 'customs'.
