Cutoff time... How important is a 10 second inhalation?

Hi everyone!

We're finally going into production on our new MaxxFusion e-cigarette, the sucessor to the current Fusion line. I am very happy with the performance, the power, and the reliability.

But there's one last detail to decide on.

Our manufacturer has a new, improved switch design. It integrates the switch and the IC chip into one unit. This new switch has several advantages.

The integrated design makes it more durable, as it eliminates one point of failure, the connection between the switch and the IC chip.

The acoustic switch itself is much more sensitive, allowing it to activate with a more restrictive decible range, almost eliminating the possibility of accidental activation from environmental noise.

And the response time between the switch and the IC chip is much faster, making the activation time nearly instantaneous. And it resets it's cutoff timer in only a tenth of a second.

Plus, it draws much less power from the battery when not in use than standard switch/IC chip combinations, so the battery will not drain when not in use. AND the smaller size of the combined unit leaves more space for the battery cell, allowing us to have more mAh per charge. 40mAh greater than standard KR808D-1 batteries, and 20mAh higher than we could have with the old switches.

Between those two the batteries should last up to 20% longer than any other KR808D-1 compatible battery on the market.

The downside? It is only available with a 5 second cutoff time, not 10 seconds.

I have tested both the old and new switches side by side. I think the new switch is so much superior to the old, that it is well worth that one trade off. You are drawing vapor from the first fraction of a second. The switch literally activates the cartomizer before the LED even has time to light up.

And the vapor production from the cartomizers is so high that even I have a hard time taking longer than a 5-second drag anyway. But if you do still want longer than a 5-second drag, the fraction of a second response time allows you to reset the cutoff timer with just a bare tenth of a second pause.

Overall, my opinion is that we should go with the new switch. But I wanted to ask you guys your opinion first.

Thoughts?? How important is a greater than 5 second drag to you?

Not what you'll want to hear, but I just checked -- I seem to run in that 7 - 8 second range, would be noticeably unhappy with a 5 second cutoff.

You might be begging for trouble, complaints. I know that I've read threads where people complained mightily about 5 second type cutoffs, the vendors had to bend over backwards to assure users that the problem (the 5 sec) was fixed, I believe even including replacing units with the fast cutoff.

Well, I really wish this thread had had this much response back in the first few days, when the decision was still in the air. ;)

We did go with the 5 second cutoff switch for the MaxxVapor, FOR NOW. In a month or so 7 seconds should be available, and we will phase those in, followed by 10-seconds when those are available.

In the end I felt the advantages of the new integrated switch design were too considerable, and the performance, between the battery and cartomizers, provides enough vapor and throat hit in those 5 seconds to satisfy most vapers. Especially the largest target market, current smokers trying e-cigs for the first time. They are used to a 2 or 3 second inhalation after all.

But the points made against a 5-second cutoff are well taken. I think if you want a longer draw than 5 seconds, the new switch is so sensitive and resets the clock so quickly that you only have to take the briefest of pauses to get another 5 seconds. Much shorter than the half second or more most switches need to reset their internal clock. I will do a video about the switches and demonstrate a 12 second draw with two pauses too fast for the LED to even go out.

But really, even a 5 second draw on the MaxxVapor is a pretty big lungful of vapor, with plenty of throat hit. As you will see very soon.

I'll be second in line, Leaford! Sounds extremely promising to myself and another vapor friend of mine.
Will you be posting the announcement of its debut on this thread, or will a newsletter be initiated?

Oh, and my choices for reviewers are naturally yourself first as I gleaned a lot of information from you since April 09.
GrimmGreen is another on the top of my list along with Igetcha69.
