D1 cart on D2 battery?

I picked up a Fuma e-cig at a local smoke shop and wanted to order some new carts, but now realize the the Fuma is a D2. I was wondering if D1 carts work on a D2 battery?

I know the threading is longer on a D2, but is the same diameter, so I was wondering if the D1 cart would fit on the D2 battery, just with a small gap in between the cart and battery. Aside from looking goofy, would this affect the functionality?
