Only I would stumble over a word, thinking it was only one thing, but can also mean another. I was having problems with Hebrews 10:24 with the word 'provoke.' I was scratching my head going, "WHAT?" It's as follows:

So, I guess you can provoke for good as will as bad. I will pick out the word 'inspire' as that reads better for me. Anyone else have a 'huh' moment with the word provoke?

It's all about context.

IMO:
Provoke brings me to a point that I will do something no doubt. Here I will do it! Here I will be forced to do it.

Example: YOUR HONOR, Mr. SMITH PROVOKED ME AND I RESPONDED WITH FORCE.

Inspire is up to me and gets me thinking about something that I might do or not do. Here I might do something and no telling if I would reach my goal.

Example: I WANT TO BE LIKE Mr. SMITH, SO I PRACTICE EVERY DAY.

If you provoke me, it's very possible I will get angry......and you won't like me when I'm angry. HA! That word just doesn't do it for me. Provoke is a negative word to me. If someone inspires me, then I am more apt to do whatever it is. I like positive words.

Sorry that I'm being like a pit bull holding onto a T-bone steak, but I gotta say one thing more, MM, about your sentence 'Here I will be forced to do it.' God doesn't 'force us' to do anything. That takes free will away. I can honestly say that when the Lord talks to me, it's 98% gentle. Yep, I've had some wood shed moments, but have never been forced or provoked. It is now officially dropped. I promise not to mention it again. I will now go and stand in the corner for a time out!

A quick google brought this up.
Provoke = stimulate or give rise to (a reaction or emotion, typically a strong or unwelcome one) in someone.

IMO: It's not force as being hit with a stick and it's differently is not God saying it but Paul as a teacher, we are always being provoked but not aware of it. When we read scripture to each other we are provoked to confirm it by reading it. When I'm told something aren't I provoke to find if is true or false. I my self have provoked you that you are now searching out the truth about being provoked and questioning it.

I don't see the need to go any further with this on the forum I will stop provoking you on the forum, if you see it as I'm not correct or vise versa, thank God for His Grace because we both need it.

We all have stolen something in our lives....I know I have....like when you take some office supplies home, like a pen. I didn't return it, as best as I can remember. My memory is like Swiss cheese. We do things that we don't think anything about, but could be classified as stealing.....even down to a handful of napkins from a fast food place. Or, extra Sweet n Low from a restaurant for later. I've done all these things without a thought....shame on me. Now I've never robbed a bank, but, stealing is stealing. Sin is sin. I can't imagine Jesus taking extra straws from McDonalds. If He really needed them, He would ask Management how much for 10 straws and pay for them. I haven't done anything lately, but that doesn't mean that I'll do something like that again without thinking......OR, maybe after all of this, I WILL!
