Hey there, new guy here.

I was just looking for info on simple, cig-a-like e-cigs to use to quit analogs and cut down on expenses. I had no idea how involved vaping can be 'til I found this site. Started with a Blu disposable, moved on to Walmart Mistics, then Halo G6 and now Ego Twist with Evod and Protank II and am loving it.

I seriously doubt I'll be saving any money...instead, this "hobby" might turn into another money pit, being the gadget freak that I am. Oh well, at least I'll be healthier and won't be supporting big tobacco.

BTW, is there a boycott list somewhere of vaping products put out by big tobacco? I want to be sure stay away from anything they profit from directly or indirectly. I realize this is almost impossible since these conglomerates have their hands in so many things, but at least I can avoid the vaping-related products.

Anyway, great forum. Lots of good info. here!

Welcome. I have the same issue here, lol. I wanted to get my wife something refillable, and looked first into something a friend of mine had that was a cig-a-like with a small clear cartridge. Then I stopped in the local vape shop and picked her up a started kit with an ego and basic clearomizer. I wasn't sure she'd like the different style, but she loved it instantly. Ever since, I can't stop watching youtube videos. I found my way here at first via Google, because literally every vaping question I Googled returned a top result linking ECF.

Now I (already a non-smoker) have picked up casual vaping and looking into tanks, maybe moving up to mods, and looking forward to trying DYI juices and coils. I'm thinking I'll start saving more once I get some of the tools you need for making these things, and the excitement to keep wanting to buy more will die down a little then too. I almost spent another $40 today, but talked myself down to about $26 after tax and shipping. :p

One thing on my side tho, is that with the crappy quality she was getting with the Blu cartridges, I'm still probably in the positive for savings in her first couple months.

eventually you will hit the savings section with vaping. some take longer then others, plus it depends on the area. when i swithced i was living in nyc paying $12 a pack smoking 2-3 a day. so my savings happened in the first week and the first 6 months or so I saved tons just buying more juice. then the ego style came out so I had to have that. Then the vv craze started so I had to have that, then vw, then mechanical, then rba and rda's. Some how 3 years later im still in the saving's colum and have tons of cool toys. Had i lived in the middle of no where and payed 4-5 bucks a pack my savings probably would be little to none.

on the bright side im healthier now and i dont smell of cigs anymore.

It can be, but it doesn't have to be. If you did your research (like I wish I had done properly from day one), you could probably get into a very capable mobile AND semi-advanced mod based kit that would satisfy your "wants" for years to come, with the necessary redundancy, for less than $200. That's less than a month of cig's in most cases.

It's the juice that's gonna get you and you won't even see it coming. You'll get in a little of this, a little of that...then you'll probably start liking things. You'll start thinking, "Well, what else is out there that I might like?" The cycle will continue until you come to one of two conclusions. You're perfectly satisfied by one, two or a few juices. Or more likely, you'll end up as a juice junkie like most of us.

Oh, and welcome to ECF! Congrats on your decision!

All I can say is I raised my son right. He's more .... about having the newest, best, and or most popular whatever than I am. Consequently I get all his cast offs. I've three new set ups I haven't even seen coming in the mail, he just bought two new ones for him and his wife. I have to say that I thought I was paying too much for citgs in Ca. at 5 to 6 a pack. Once you get what you want then find the best place for you to buy your juice from. I just ordered my first from MT Baker and paid less than half what I pay locally (well 40 minutes away) and a lot cheaper than the last place I was buying from. But I have to admit their flavors are very good. I keep hearing that I will need to steep the stuff I get from MT Baker, but that's fine with me if they taste right. We just got Aspire glass lined tanks with bottom dual coils and they produce a great mouth and throat hit as well as tons of "smoke" for the Psychological effect. We were spending $175 to $225 a month on cigs and now maybe $40 or $50 and we are still trying out some flavors so every time we buy we try to get a small new flavor to try and then we can have an arsonal of flavors that we know we like.

If we could just kick the last of the analogs 1 to 3 a day each we will be set.

Analogs were 50 cents a pack in Ky when I started smoking, swore I would quit every time prices went up. Tried cig-alikes, never could get satisfied with them. Quit the day I got my first ego/ stardust set-up. Initially it cost about the same as smoking, but once I found the equipment I liked the cost runs @ $50 a month. That being said, just added an MVP to my line-up....

Welcome Mike!!

At this point in time it's pretty easy to avoid supporting big tobacco. If you mostly stay away from the cig-alikes and disposables available at the big box stores (which it seems you now are) and stick to indie juice vendors (you'll find out about TONS here) you are pretty good to go. :vapor:

same for me--first day i tried ecigs was the last day i smoked tobacco

Yup, same here. I tried an analog the other day while my battery was charging, while I was at at a friends' house & didn't even smoke the whole thing. Waited an hour or so for my battery to charge up enough to finish the day & haven't even thought about one since.
