From a quick search I see this is a possibility, but dang. New atty, chucking clouds (that I probably haven't previously), just trying to chill in my bedroom and stay warm (it's the only room in the house that's warm, and it's late). Geez, Man - scared the cr@p outta me! Is there no place scared, LOL :lol::mad::lol: #cantwaitforsummer #BRRRRR

First time in almost 3 yrs that's happened to me. I'm blaming it on the new mods and the 0.3 coils. Grrrrr :p

I've set one off... once... tootle puffing but I was adjusting the thermostat and pretty much vaped right INTO it. So glad the husband was gone for the day, that day. LOL. However, it is possible to do, even with a small amount of vape, if you are in just the right space.

It did make me consider whether I would want to vape in a non-smoking room in a hotel.

And yes, those fire alarms are there to save your life, I'm not sure disabling them is the best solution, but I just got a cheap air purifier for the space where I do most of my vaping. I hope it will cut down on my VG fog, which the husband doesn't enjoy. Perhaps one of those?

Keep in mind there are several types of smoke/fire alarms vaping will not set off all types but it will set off some of them.

Type one actually detects heat and will not go off until an element inside reaches a certain temp or changes temp rapidly. The heat detectors are slower to detect an actual fire but have the lowest chance of false alarm. Vaping will not set these off.

Type two is an ionization smoke alarm contains a small amount of radioactive material. The radiation passes through an ionization chamber which is an air-filled space between two electrodes and permits a small, constant current between the electrodes. Any smoke that enters the chamber absorbs the alpha particles, which reduces the ionization and interrupts this current, setting off the alarm. These type take quite a bit of smoke to set off, so you would probably have to blow lots of vapor directly into it to set it off.

Type three is a photoelectric smoke alarm which uses a light source and a photoelectric sensor. When smoke enters the optical chamber and crosses the path of the light beam, some light is scattered by the smoke particles, directing it at the sensor and thus activating the alarm. These are probably the most sensitive to vapor since the light can be disturbed just as easily by vapor as by smoke.

Type four is a combination of the ionization and photoelectric alarms and can be set of by either method.

There are also other types of detectors such as Carbon Monoxide detectors, that vaping should not be able to set off.

OMG good point! At least don't be chucking tons of clouds o_O

Yeah - I'm not going to disable the thing. That would be dumb. But, the plastic bag idea is not a bad one (although, knowing me, I would probably leave it on there by mistake, thus defeating the entire purpose of it...).

ScottP - mine is the ionization type. Hard-wired. My room is ridiculously small. Smaller than 100 SF. All the doors and windows were closed as it was freezing and I had my space heater on to keep warm. It's never really been a problem before, but I think maybe I was chain-vaping a little too much with new gear I hadn't used before. I only recently started sub ohm-ing. I don't know why I didn't consider it before, but suffice it to say I'm aware of it now, lol

Yeah small sealed room, plus large clouds will do it. If you have a ceiling fan with the "reverse" switch, you might turn that on. It will help you keep warm by pulling heat from the ceiling back down to you and help disburse the clouds you are making. My wife set our bedroom detector off with a couple of candles several times.
