I'm with the others...everything can be replaced and repaired and you are fortunate it wasn't worse. That's a nasty 2nd degree burn so I would put some antibiotic ointment on it and put a bandage on it to make sure it doesn't get infected. There are some REALLY nasty germs out there just looking for an opportunity to cause major trouble.

I dont think so, one time something similar happends to me with a bottom button mod that I forget to lock while passing out on the bed. I woke up with a burn on my thigh and a 306 mouthpiece totally melted.

If the GG were a bottom button, then that wouldn't have happen....

*juz a suggestion :)*

Ok, I took some pics when I got home. Sorry they're not too detailed, but basically what happened is that the clear section melted completely over the ody, so I had to snap it off piece by piece to dislodge my ody :(

Here's what the coil in the Ody looked like...

And lastly, guess what that shmutz is on the mouthpiece....part of my arm.

I've fallen asleep to many times with my GG in my grip and been awakened by the heat. One night my wife rolled over on it, ouch.
Thank goodness the plastic windows never last. I always use the steel tanks, or mine would have done something similar.
Better check all of the springs, they tend to go bad after an overheating.

Glad you're okay RW. Other than a couple of springs and the window, looks like your GG stuff came through no worse for the wear.

And I'll go ahead and throw the BS flag on the bottom button bit. "Hot pockets", unable to stand on end w/o locking, etc. along with being hard to operate with my lack of dexterity are why I do not own a bottom button mod of any description.

I've been waiting to finally buy a good PV, but I must say that I would've assumed that safety would be included in even the least expensive model. Why would safety be an extra. I could see this if it were an add-on for older models, and this would then be commendable- but this post reads as tho a person could buy a new one and safety is an add-on- not included??

safety features are built into all the GG stuff, the fuse which would be purely overdischarge protection, is an add on. i'm not sure what the fuse rating is, but the springs will collapse beforehand based on current temps (standard), there's clearance on the top and bottom for venting (standard) and the end caps are well ventilated for outgassing (standard). additionally there are locks on the buttons when users choose to use them, easy circuit disconnect points on the body just turn counter-clockwise, etc., etc. really it's among the best all mechanical devices with user safety in mind (standard). the fuse is cool, it's overlapping protection, but by and large the factors that would make that the safety measure to make you "safe" are already addressed elsewhere in the standard design. with that in mind, the end user could and should conduct additional safe practices when using the device, any device, and batteries, chargers, etc....that should all be standard, but it isn't.

Oh, I didn't know that it was a mechanical mod. I think I was just disturbed when reading that the simple act of falling asleep with his PV ( I think a lot of folks do ) might've killed him and burnt his house down- simply because a safety feature was an option, not standard. But you're right, safety is a personal responsibility and people buy this product know this- I hadn't done any research yet.

I understand now- last post, sorry to disrupt thread.
