Hi guys,

I'm using my first mech hybrid right now, Ikarus V2.1 and I am still waiting on jet lighter to make my own SS mesh wicks so I've used some pre-made ZAP ones with insulator to make the wick hole smaller. Understand this restricts the juice flow but I wanted to vape today and that was my only option unless it would leak everywhere...

The first coil I made lit the top and bottom really hard and busted the coil... why does this happen? is this a short?

It was a fully charged AW IMR but when I put it back on the charger it read 0%... hard short?

Sorry for the noob questions and I should probably be using a multimeter and checking the ohms but I was impatient and just hoping to get some guidance for ECF members on what happened.

I now have a good coil in with all coil lighting up but yeah wicking issues with the smaller wick... hopefully lighter gets here soon :)

You had two serious hot legs and the power you ran through the coil was too much for it. If I had to guess, your top and bottom coils were too tightly pulling on the wick of the device. When this happens, remember, like water, electricity always takes the path of the lowest possible resistance, the current hit these 'tight wraps' of the coil and rather than travel to the rest of the coil, either traveled into the wick or simply popped from excessive heat caused by resistance. Surprised that a fully charged battery completely discharged after that, even if it was a hard short - is the battery now recharging/holding a charge?

Thanks for the reply :)

hmm that actually does seem consistent with what happened... Yep battery was recharged and working now

I wouldn't worry too much about it, everyone struggles with hot legs - its difficult to 'wrap it tight enough to always make contact but not too tight to strangle the wick at all'. Remember when you're testing out a new coil to hit it really quickly the first few times with the switch to watch for hot lets and correct immediately if you see em.

Best of luck!
