I just got my darwin about a week ago and I love it. If I had one complaint it would be that because of the swinging arm it doesn't play well with tanks or drip shields. This got me to thinking. (I know dangerous right!) How hard would it be to make a 510 extender (or 510 to any other threading) where it takes a 90 degree angle to the right, then a 90 degree angle up to allow room for the tank to swivel down? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would benefit from such a device but I would love to commission ANYONE to make me one. Anyone point me in the right direction?

I do use a gooseneck at home but not when I'm out and about. I just think its a bit overkill. I already have to explain what an e cig is without pulling out what looks like a portable hooka out of my pocket. Since being out and about is where I would mostly need a tank this is not a viable option. My idea would work. I just need someone who's willing to manufacture one. I dont want money or anything for the idea. I just want to be able to use a tank with my Darwin and be able to close the arm.

1x male 510 connector
1x female 510 connector
1x 1" piece of wire
5 seconds of dremel
J.B. Weld.

1. Cut a notch in the side of the bottom of a female 510 connector just big enough for the wire to fit through.
2. Solder the wire to the hot posts on both connectors.
3. Solder the 2 connectors together in said Z fashion(threaded ends facing opposite directions), with the side of the non-threaded section of the male connector pressed against the side of the bottom of the female connector. Make sure the wire is fed safely through the cut section of the female connector.
4. Mix J.B. Weld and carefully mold it around the center part of your new custom connector. This will insulate everything and make it stronger. Of course be careful not to get it on the threaded areas.

the problem with making an adapter to fit your specs is due to threads on connectors not being perfectly aligned the same way on every one, this type of adapter would need to be custom made for the darwin it is to be used on, or else it might sit where you want it to or it might not, I would second the gooseneck suggestion as the best route to go

We've discussed possibilities for offset adapters in the Darwin thread and there are several people waiting for someone to make one ;-)

I had an idea just the other day that might work, though I don't have the materials or tools to build a serviceable one: what about doing the adapter much like OP describes, but instead of a 510 connector on the Darwin side you use an RCA jack or something similar that doesn't need a specific orientation? Then just rig up a 510-RCA adapter to go on the Darwin itself. I'm sure you could incorporate a set screw or other locking mechanism to keep the whole unit oriented where you want it

just my thoughts on the subject :)
