I'm sorry, what? There is no known PEL for diacetyl, David. None. That means "our government" says there is no known safe exposure limit.
It's a good thing Max from FlavourArt decided to start removing it from the flavors you use, at any rate.
Actually, there is no PEL because the government is slow in seeing dangers with Diacetyl. The FDA still considers Diacetyl to be safe. That means "our government" says there is
no known UNsafe exposure limit. I know, they hate e-cigs but love Diacetyl. Go figure! The only government agency that is really doing anything about Diacetyl is OSHA. Although, the House of Representatives are starting to force measures.
Here is a good article about Popcorn Workers Lung and how our government is dealing with things:
Popcorn Workers Lung Diacetyl Bronchiolitis Obliterans Congress | NewsInferno
Understand, the article is from October but, not much has changed. The exception is that OSHA has released a bulletin about Diacetyl:
OSHA Releases Diacetyl Flavoring Bulletin
Considering that I have Chronic Pulmonary Fibrosis, which has elevated over the years due to smoking, I really pay attention to what I inhale. I think that we need to understand Diacetyl better and not create mass hysteria over it. I am just as concerned with all the other ingredients that are in the flavorings, as well as the alternatives that are being used for "buttery flavor".
I see what David is doing as a good thing. Again, he is going to be able to help me understand what is in my juices so that I can make the choice of what I use. I am tired of all these juice vendors claiming that they are removing Diacetyl and telling me that their juice is safe. Yet, these vendors don't have a clue what they are buying and are the same ones that used Diacetyl based juices and told you they were safe before.
David may not have the best communication skills but, as a business man, he knows what he is doing. He is getting to the truth about the ingredients he is using and is offering the same to any and all vendors. He is only in the beginning phases. Give him a chance to do what he is trying to do. He may just pull it off!
