I didn't make it the first time...so I weaned down to fewer analogs and reduced more triggers, then just quit analogs. I haven't looked back. Did any of you experience weird side effects for the first week or so? Please share. I don't use the ecig very often, and I'm not having unbearable cravings. A few puffs on the ecig will usually do it. I've just felt b.a.d. for the last five days. Today is a bit better. I'm trying to drink more water to see if that helps. sometimes a little, but generally not. So I wonder if it is just a normal detox from the 7 or 8 K of chemicals burning in analogs over 40 years (gotta detox my whole body?).

Congratulations on your success!!!

First rule of vaping: Everybody is different. Correlary: Every body is different. A lot of what new vapers go through involves detoxing from tobacco additives, yes, but I'd say there's no such thing as "normal detox." Probably no two vapers experience quite the same symptoms after switching. Your system has adapted to 40+ years of one thing, so yes, you're bound to feel different now that you're doing a different thing. By all means, keep hydrated. And check out the "Health, Safety and E-Smoking" forum," lots of helpful info and suggestions there.

Hope this helps, and keep on vapin! :vapor:

Yeah. First few days I was more nasty than I usually am (ha ha). Seriously, I was agitated, jittery and had no patience for anything. Around day 3/4 I got sick with a cough that lasted 3 days. By day 7 all was good.

This has happened every time I've tried quitting, but I never lasted past day 3/4 without having to buy a pack and start again, that is until I started vaping. It's been 6 weeks and I still want to light up in the mornings, but I don't & with each passing day/week it's getting better. I vape a bit in the morning and the need to light up goes away in a couple of minutes. For some reason this morning was the easiest and I didn't vape until after my morning coffee. For decades I always had a smoke (now vape) before coffee. Today was another milestone for me.

As time goes on it gets better. Keep at it.

Another thing I should have mentioned in my first post is that, as you smoked for 40+ years, I'm assuming you are --ahem-- up there with me in years (I smoked for 55+ years before switching), and our bodies do not adapt or heal as quickly as some of these young whippersnappers on the forum. FYI, I've been vaping now for 7 months and my body and brain are still adapting to the change. So be patient and don't give up!

Smoked 40 a day for 30 years. I just swapped vaping for smoking. So when i get up - i have a vape - same as before. It was easy because i only changed one habit. Lighting things!

Everyone feels weird for about a week or more, but i noticed after a month or so that i was breathing better in the mornings - not coughing as i used to and could smell again. All things that tobacco smoking robs you of the ability to do. I never had the 'purging' i often hear mentioned. At some point down the line i may end up saving money too and then i shall hang my head in shame!

Keep it up - drink more anyway, eat well and if you backslide a little - don't be hard on yourself. It's not something you'll be judged on. I know people that still smoke and vape, although i don't.

and ofc congratulations!! I recall how stunned i was after even a day without smoking!

I was 40 a day for 20 years and it sounds like your experience was very similar to mine. It was fairly easy, I never went through the hard physical purge symptoms some mention, and the first week was really just feeling out of sorts, lack of normal mental acuity etc, but no real cravings or anything. After that it's been all uphill and I'm into week 5.

I was a PAD+ smoker for 20 years and the day I got a BLU disposable I dropped down to 3-4 stinks a day. After the BLU's were done I grabbed an eGo-C kit from a local B&M that just opened up. That was a month ago and I had a pack and a half left over. I continued to smoke 3-4 a day until I had about 5 or 6 left. I then only smoked first thing in the morning as that was when I craved an analog the most, then I went down to 2 analogs and kept them as an in case of emergency which are now gone plus 3 that I bummed from a co worker.

Now the first two weeks I'd vape when I craved a stinky and as the days went on the cravings started to go away but I would continue to vape a few pulls here and there as the day went on. I didn't really get many symptoms of withdrawal with the exception of feeling agitated and impatient. I also had two nights back to back with EXTREMELY VIVID dreams! I haven't experienced the coughs and hacking and only barely felt the cold/flu like symptoms.
No stinkies in 8 days and with just a little bit of the agitation and short patients, other then that I feel great! Congrats on quitting and keep it up!!!

Congrats to you! 30 year PAD sort of ex-smoker here! I was good for about 4 weeks without serious cravings, then they started popping up here and there. I still don't consider myself a smoker so much as a vaper--my "cheating" has amounted to about 15 cigarettes in 2 months. But I never intended to quit, that happened by accident--I just like vaping a heck of a lot more than smoking. Maybe soon I'll call myself completely smoke free.

Hang in there--and cheers to you! :toast:

Congrats, metallic.......
Keep up the good work! Now, have a blast finding just the right flavors that you like. Lean on the vapor a little bit more when you feel as if you want to backslide, and YOU GOT 'EM COMPLETELY BEAT!!

Your taste buds and sense of smell will return soon, and that feeling of a ton of bricks sitting on your chest will dissipate shortly. Many here report noticable changes in their bodies for months after quitting. Stick with it.

Thanks for the encouragement and sharing your stories/links.

It hasn't been that bad...quitting...I really don't have intense cravings, and I'm not eating everything in sight, either. (good) It is not being able to sleep for the last several nights, achy all over, and just plain exhausted. Not just tired feeling. Just no energy to do anything. I think weaning myself down and changing where I smoked/when I smoked to eliminate as many triggers as possible has helped a lot.

No real hacking and coughing, and I hope I don't. I do have a bit more energy today, and don't feel quite as achy, so that is progress.

I will keep going. I can't wait for one month, then one quarter, 6 months, years to roll by...
