This is when I sometimes think a stiff sugar tax would provide an important civics lesson for voters. What goes around eventually comes around.

Hear, hear....
Yeah, diabetes is skyrocketing amongst the youth. If they really want to protect the children they'd make sure to tax the hell out of it etc. But I digress.

29 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes (9.3%). Compare to about 9 million diagnosed with COPD. Which is the more serious problem????

Yet the FDA does not even set a recommended daily intake of sugar and its labeling mandates suggest 6 servings of soft drinks per day will satisfy all your carbohydrate requirements....

You have zero "carbohydrate requirements".

To some degree, sugar gets a bad rap. Most simple carbs like white bread, pasta, and potatoes are as bad or even worse than table sugar in terms of glycemic response, despite the fact that they're not sweet.

According to the FDA I have a "daily value" of at least 300g of carbs. So it must be good for me ;)

Beyond that issue, it is true that most of Western world subsisted on bread for thousands of years. Yet diabetes is a modern phenomenon. It is a far more complex subject than "all carbs are bad"

In my own personal opinion sugar is being demonized just exactly like our vaping is being demonized. I don't believe a single word coming out of the mouths of the ones that want to control every aspect of our lives!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the sheep in this country will finally wake up once sugar is deemed to be detrimental to our health and is taxed beyond the reach of most folks paycheck or as some have pointed out, their medications have outrageous taxes added to them.

Lol, I remember NY's proposed (failed) Big Gulp ban.... NY is always first it seems, they're very caring that way. Important civics lesson? I've got one for you, impose a 100% excise tax on "junk food" that way you cover sweet snacks, pop, fatty foods, hollow calories etc. Let's call it the "Save our children from terrorism Act". I know-I know, it has absolutely nothing to do with the intent/purpose of the law but that's what works to secure unwavering public support. Roll the law under the "Patriot Act" so that no one actually reads it before passing it into law. Wordsmith the law so vaguely that it could apply to pretty much anything you decided to target/tax. Appoint a "Food Czar" to oversee the law, I'm thinking NY governor Chris Christie would be a shoo in.

A retired fed, I know for a fact the greatest threat/danger to our country (and individual well being) comes from the very people we elect and entrust to run it.

In America the FDA has approved so many sweeteners that are illegal in other countries. The other countries banned the chemicals because of the harm they caused. I agree with @mattiem that sugar is getting demonized. It's not necessarily the sugar, but the HFCS, the Sucralose, the Aspartame. Etc...

It's also a question of quantity... in some places, a piece of candy a week is a grand treat. In the US, sugars are crammed into everything so it's akin to eating a piece of candy with every bite.

I completely believe this fact!!!!! I have lived long enough to have lived through the gradual loss of our freedom. We are free as long as we tow the line they have made in the sand.

I raised the sugar issue not to demonize it as something skin to cyanide but to suggest that the FDA actually encourages overconsumption. And that overconsumption does coincide with the diabetes epidemic.

I have said this to numerous times to my coworkers and I will say this here. Everyone knows this so it's nothing new. This is about money. Plain and simple. BT and BP are .... hurt because they are losing money. I believe BP is sweating this loss the most. It is my firm belief that the medical field has had a cure, if not a way to suppress cancer giving people full lives. But just think on how much of an impact this would have on the money aspect of this. The medical field would lose billions. I could be wrong. But I sure do have to sit and wonder.

If only it were an actual line in the sand. Rather, it is more like a rope they have stretched out and electrified, and they keep advancing it, pushing us closer and closer to the water.

Eventually, they'll have us grateful to them for even allowing us a breath of air.

While the "more-equal" ones holding the rope are fooled into thinking that they are somehow privileged, just like the ones who told them to hold the rope and get to live on the other side of it.

But it's not just BT and BP losing money to vaping...there are also all the taxes for cigarette purchases that are being lost.

Since this is the thread I usually post to. I am asking you to send prayers and your good vibes to my City Beautiful Orlando as we go through this horrible time. My heart is broken that this has happened in my little city. Thanks to you all.
And we know this could happen in Anytown, USA. It was Orlando's turn this time. The world needs to end this scourge of radicalism. We can if we want. We just choose not to. Thoughts and prayers to the victim's families and friends.

Yeppers. I've been saying and writing and vlogging and blogging for about a year now that IF the FDA really wanted to protect the youth of America, there'd be a sin tax and marketing restrictions on cereal and energy drinks and soda pop. We'd be subsidizing V8, and banning KoolAid.

Complex carbs are really the only good ones. Otherwise they're empty of nutrients for the most part. That being said I love potatoes.

Careful there, don't let their lies get to you. They're not marketing to children and we know it. That label isn't meant for children, just like the flavors aren't.

Less, We know damn well they are Using the Kids.........not protecting them. They Never Have on and level and cannot because Kids are kids.

Still, We know what Propaganda for a cause in - Hello HITLER - and if your Not on Top of your Game, you are hurting your chances.
Where was the Spokesperson for this Company(and others), Day one Pushing their Defense?

We must All take some responsibility in this outcome, for not getting extremely Loud in the beginning.:(

Now instead of Standing up for what is ours, People are fighting for the Pieces they might be able to save.:(

If I have learned nothing more from all of this, i Have learned we need to Press Congress into Stripping FDA's Power to do as it Pleases without DUE PROCESS!

Less, Your Petition Stands as the only Acceptable Solution - Repeal the Deeming Amendment in FULL, and I am absolutely Sick at the Lack of response in Signatures to date.
Every Manufacturer/Wholesaler/Retailer and Every Person they Employ should have already signed. This is Their livlihood as well as our Products.

Sadly their power lies in Lemmings.........and ours in Rocks. Lemmings will run right over rocks to get where they are going.:glare:
