I need a defense line or lines. I have been having a few people (smokers) that all say that i suck on the ecig way more then when i smoked (they are right). There were also some other debates but i won't get into that as i was able to defend myself. I try to explain that it isn't the nicotine that i chase when i vape all the time but the taste. I love it! But they just shake their heads and talk about how they can have a smoke and be done for a couple hours where i have to vape all the time. What else can i say to defend myself?

The only thing I have been able to come up with is to equate it with the patch. Since vaping delivers nic in a slower time frame, you almost have to keep the nic level up. Before the nic cravings hit. Kind of like the patch. The patch delivers nic constantly so that, theoretically, one does not get a nic fit.

We don't have a start and stop time built in. We also do NOT use it the same way we smoked. I take a hit or two, Ok sometimes more... set it down and go do something. Come back and rinse and repeat.

I do know it fills that "what do I do with my hands" void when I'm idle. I don't sit there for the 7 minutes that it would take to smoke a cigarette, vaping. It's just different.

As I've progressed in time, I actually can go for longer periods without vaping than I could without smoking.

It's a tough thing to explain to people that cannot get it.

Good luck :)

I don't get it why some smokers want to debate all the time. I don't bother them and i wish they would stop bothering me. If they don't want to vape then don't but stop putting me down for doing it. My co worker said today that her mother heard on the news how bad it is for you. I kinda snapped and said that i don't care if its bad for me i love vaping. I don't believe vaping is bad for me but i don't care to get into confrontation about my vaping.

I suppose it depends on how seriously they were ripping on me. If it was just 'banter' between friends then I'd give them some gentle ribbing about 19th century smoking as opposed to 21st century vaping or something like that. I always make the joke with my smoking friend that I get more attention from my wife because I smell of fruit and berries and not cigarettes.

Also we have to vape more because we don't absorb the nicotine as fast with vaping due to the molecule size being larger.

If it got personal, I think I'd be tempted to either tell them to seriously back off and say the subject is not open to debate any more, or I suppose in the extreme case, change my friends.

Shouldn't come to that though, just laugh at them and know you made the right choice.

I'd really like to hear from some of the veterans here about how their vaping experiences and habits have changed as time goes on.

I'm 8 months in and am finding that I really only want to vape now when I'm sitting back and relaxing (on the computer, with a drink, a book, etc.). I do kinda chain vape then; like a pipe or cigar smoker....

Vaping seems less and less like my old habit of smoking - more like an enjoyable activity that I can take or leave.

Guess what I'm saying is maybe the vaping experience changes over time; maybe it's different for different people; maybe it's more complex than smoking was....maybe it's an activity that evolves....

I might tell people that most vapers vape a lot when they first start and are wanting to lose the cigarette cravings....that after while it changes and you don't know yet how it will be for you down the road; that it's a fun hobby with a lot of aspects to it, and you're pretty confident it's safer for YOU than smoking cigarettes. For people who "nag" about it, I might say that I'm so glad to be free from the cigarette addiction and feel so much better for it, that I don't CARE what they think - and I'd mean that!

I've escaped the tyranny of cigarette addiction and that gives me such peace of mind that I don't feel the need to prove anything to anyone or convince anyone of anything, frankly. I just smile!!

To the OP, so the smokers are questioning vape safety and your judgement, as they are knowingly smoking 92 known carcinogens. Nice.

They can get a massive dose of nic in the 8 minutes of a cigarette, and that satisfies them for 2 or 3 hours. No vape hits like a cigarette. (sorry...) You are getting a much smaller dose of nic, and need to hit it more often.

Think of nic levels like waves. Smokers have big ocean waves, big peaks and lows. You have smaller lake ripples. less withdrawal, less nic hit. A patch user has a flat line, no waves.

As to dealing with the illiterati, be more informed with facts than their hearsay. Like in the past 5 years, there has not been one reported death from vaping. (or ingesting eliquid). But 480,000 deaths annually from smoking in the US alone. (not counting the 42,000 deaths annually in the USA from their second hand smoke)

Or one death in the United States every 66 seconds, or the time it took to read this post.

Vape on, my friend, vape on...
