On the bottom of the main page is a list of currently online members (mods AND not). The Mods are a different color (though their not all the same color).

The only quick way to have a mod address your concern is to PM them or start a thread and wait for them to see it. I imagine they'd prefer not to be flooded with PMs (and some are better than others about responding) so I'd suggest just starting a thread!

The easiest way is to simply report the post. That brings it to our attention quickly.
By that, you mean clicking the little triangle icon at the left side, entering a descriptive message, and 'sending' the report. But ... I think the OP asked how to delete a post ... maybe how to have one deleted. However ...
This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.
So, is it possible to have a mod delete your own post? And, if so, would the report function be the route to take (in spite of the quoted text)? If so, what is the time limit, or other restrictions?

This is the only way members can delete a post... by having a mod do it for them. That is why I gave the answer I did. However, I will add that you'd better have a good reason. We don't just go around deleting posts all willy-nilly.

I think my post above pretty much made it clear that it is possible, and that is a good way to do it, if you don't see a moderator online to ask.

Thank you for answering. And NCC - thanks for asking the questions you did - it was what I was thinking but had a brain fart and couldn't think anymore:D

The reason I asked was because I posted a "stupid" question out of panic and wanted to delete it.

The situation was taken care of, and I wanted to delete the post. However, at the time, no mods were available.

I hit the little triangle thingy and then read

This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

Which of course didn't fit the bill for me. I didn't want to raise the wraith of the Mods:-x and be struck down by a bolt of lightening:)

So, as I understand it, in the future, I can:

Edit the post
OR
Post "Please delete this thread"
OR
Hit the triangle thingy

I also understand that sometimes Mods go into stealth mode (which I have done at times - NO I'M NOT A LURKER:D) kind of like Klingons with the invisible cloaker.

Again, thank you to everyone for all your help. Much, much appreciated.

Tried to delete a post just now but couldn't do it. This is way too confusing. Maybe I'm dim, but jeeezzz...

How about a "delete" button? I'm just askin'.

It's nice when I can just quote myself instead of typing it all out again... :D

There's a very intensive and thorough testing procedure that Moderators go through before being accepted into the Brotherhood/Sisterhood. It would be quite dangerous if every poster had the kind of powers that the Mods do. Therefore, regular posters can NOT delete post.

You can ask to have a post deleted or you can edit your own post (which can effectively delete the content of your post). A delete button? In the hands of anyone but a Mod, that could result in the formation of a dwarf star right in the middle of ECF and the protective screens would be unable to save us!!! :D

It would cause a rip in the fabric of time and space, creating a supermassive black hole named "Bubba" that would devour us all with fava beans and a nice Chianti.
