Dented battery question...

Hi people!

I had a friend change battery wraps for me today on my LG HG2 18650. He said that the dent on the negative side might make the battery not useable anymore. It is a really slight dent and I was thinking it would be fine but I’m not 100% sure.

What do you guys think?

It's possible that the dent is deep enough to damage the internals, or not. If in doubt recycle it, batteries are cheap.

The dent isnt showing in the pic and that looks kinda like the positive end of the battery.

Dent = Dispose and replace. Not worth the risk especially as you have no way of testing for internal battery damage.

I agree that the dent isn't obvious in the pic, but it does look like the negative end of the battery to me. This is a good example of why pictures don't always show the whole story.

When in doubt = replace.

Agree it appears to be the negative end, as far as the dent issue When in doubt, throw it out, recycle.

Personally I don’t think there should be any doubt. Given the cheap price of these batteries, is it worth the risk. Without question I’d recycle the cell.

This. I don’t see why it’s even worth discussing. A new battery is around $10.

Ouch.. Yah that's one that goes to the recycling bin. Rather people be safe than sorry. Not going to matter what type of device you use it in either. I wouldn't use it in a flashlight let alone a mod.

I don't mess with damaged batteries. When their good their very good but when their bad they can be little pipe bombs. Not my cup of tea.

i'd take that dented cell and find a pristine trout stream and toss it into the water...either that or recycle it, depends on if it was earth day or not...on earth day...into the stream it goes.
