I just want to put forward my opinion that all dentists come from the planet Zorg and their sole purpose in life is to inflict pain and suffering on the human race.

You may have gathered from this I have toothache, I did not have toothache before I went to the dentist, they were completely painless.

I'll just put a filling in this one she said, that's been two days now I've been in agony.

I've used about double the dose of painkillers I dare to, and probably from this tirade you will guess I've become good friends with a bottle of whisky. I've finished the whisky now but I still see a bottle of absinthe on the shelf.

Sorry I'll go away now.

I have 6 close friends and family who are now fully qualified dentists and all off them openly admit the older generation of Dentists that they all did there training with were all in it for only 1 thing Money !!

Thankfully most of the new younger dentists are in it to help and to educate people on how to prevent tooth problems not just dive in and start drilling away !

I'm considering it Kate, unfortunately I'm about 18 miles away, so very expensive. I think however that the rather silly amounts of painkillers and alcohol i've consumed is starting to make some difference. I did phone my dentist this afternoon (the filling was yesterday) and was told "Oh it's a big filling, it may be a bit tender for a few days" That has got to be the best understatement I've ever heard:(

If you really can't stand it Pete you could get a taxi, it might be worth it.

They couldn't give you any anaesthetics until the alcohol and painkillers have worn off :(

If you are in such pain, would that dentist not have to give you an emergency appointment tomorrow and at least have a look at it? They may not like to admit it, but they do mess up sometimes

Don't worry, if I'm still like this tomorrow morning, they will give me an appointment, even if I have to go and sit in the waiting room, complaining loudly:):)

Pete,

I once met a ...... who decided that he could do root canal treatment. After 8 goes at it - and much pain - he STILL left some infected root in. Thankfully he is long gone (not dead as far as I am aware - but I live in hope).

The worst one was a double-buckle rooted upper left seven that broke and some "dentists" tried to remove. After two hours the phrase "more pressure..more pressure" suddenly lost its charm.

Good luck!

well thanks to my parents thinking they were doing the right thing taking me regularly to a dentist my teeth are wrecked. The only time I would ever go near a dentist now is if a tooth would have to be pulled. and the cause of the damage --- what they laughingly called hygene, in other works cleaning off all the protective enamel. I would be banned from this forum if I used the words I really want to to describe these ....... dentists.

BTW that was a long time ago, I'm 50 years young now.

I am in full agreement with Grumpysanta; my teeth were absolutely fine, even after 30+ years of smoking, except for staining. I've been paying out a lot of money every month for a hygienist and i've never had such sensitive teeth!

I've needed a root canal (never again, the pain and hassle afterwards just was'nt worth it, it was a back tooth and I'd rather have lost it) and constant sensitivity to cold and heat.

Sorry but unless you've got a lot of money and can afford treatment after treatment I'd only go when, like yourself, I'm in absolute agony.

If you are in agony go now! and have the absolute minimum done to take away the pain.

You may notice a certain malice in my post towards dentists; it is purely intentional.

So I get an appointment today, she pokes about, then both dentist and nurse prise me off the ceiling.

"Oh we'll just do an x-ray" Fine:grr:
"Ah you have a cracked root" Wonderfull :grr::
"It will have to come out" Great :grr:
"It's not going to be an easy extraction" Oh Joy
"You'll need IV sedation" Marvellous :?:
"It'll have to be tomorrow" Ahrrgg
"Have a prescription for painkillers"

I swear I'm going to have more opiates in my system than your local junkie

Ouch! 8-o:cry:

Is the cracked root their fault? I'd strangle them (after the op, of course)!

I'm with Grumpysanta when it comes to dentists. My molars have always been crummy, and they've always just made it worse, so now I'm letting them crumble.
