I was on analogs for 38 yrs. then my son introduced me to vaping in Jan of this year. Of course the first week I had a 1 or 2 a day then after that I didn't have anymore for about 2 months until I was out w/o a back-up gone for 5 hrs, in bumper to bumper traffic for 45 min. and said that was, it I need a cig. However, after getting it I hated it! Can't stand them now and will never go back. There was only a couple of times that I got stressed the first week and craved an analog though. I never thought I could ever quit but "I Did" Yippee!!!!
I am now a Vapor for Life!

Awesome Vicki, congrats

The first 4 days I vaped like mad...it was glued to my lips. I really quit by accident. I'd only planned on using my Pv while traveling or in bars/places cigarettes are banned. The first day I received and charged it was my last smoking day. I stopped smoking and never looked back. I knew vaping would stick with me because the next day I was in Vegas for a conference, where I'd normally smoke double my normal 1pack a day. I didn't have the crave to smoke...just kept on vaping...and it was satisfying...I didn't feel I gave up anything :). Now I smell cigarettes and I want to technicolor yawn.

My brain just will not accept food as smoke. Whenever I vape food flavors I get smoker cravings. I always wanted to smoke after eating too. So the key for me is to make sure I vape smokey flavors and leave the fruits and desserts for fillins only. If a different kind of craving hits.... one tied to a habit like talking on the phone... I reach for the strongest TH smoke flavor I have and that stops it. Experimenting with all this for six months, its not reaching for a higher nicotine that stops the craving, its the flavor. Higher nic will just give me the shakes, etc because I'll vape it too much trying to feel that real cig smoke so it doesn't stop the craving and just give me another problem. Although, I do make sure I'm getting enough nicotine for the phase I'm in.

Edit: I should say here that I do DIY and just add Oakwood to many of the fruits, tobaccos and some desert flavors but I make Oakwood predominant so the other flavors just compliment it but don't taste like a food vape.

I stopped smoking about a year ago. I completely stopped smoking for about 4 months, just vaping. I'm in construction, and one day on an away from home job I ran out of juice. Many of my coworkers smoke, and like a dummy I bummed one. The first one tasted like #$%, but strangely enough I bummed another the next day. Within a week I bought a pack. When I got back home course my wife could smell the cigs on me, and bless her, got me to try again vaping. Been strictly vaping now. Vaping IMO definitly tastes better, and is much more convenient, but be aware, don't even have one cig in the mean time, the addiction will come back.

Started vaping after trying out a friends ego twist, started looking for my own set to start off and bought an ego t.
vaped for a week with analogues in between just to finish whatever cigarettes I had left and never touched an analogue since. been a month since i got my ego t.
Was getting sick of the smell after smoking analogues anyway, and vaping leaves a slight sweet scent in the air which is a plus point for me.

I'm very new to this as well and I think the fear of "giving up" is the worst part. Luckily I have people who support me and help me to not focus on when I DO have a cigarette, but to be grateful when I realize how many I HAVEN'T had. I've found that not trying to get the same taste as a cigarette is really making a huge difference. We can do this!

I think another big mistake I'm making is expecting for there to be some big shift when quitting. I've made such a big deal about giving up smoking, I'm expecting some huge reward for all this mental strife and to finally reach a state of freedom where I look at my past addiction and laugh about it all, smell cigarette smoke and have it seem like a completely foreign substance. Realizing this isn't the case tho I'm finding it a little easier to keep going and not over think things.

Yeah, some of your posts seem like you may be expecting too much from yourself. Not everybody switches on day one. Cut yourself some slack. I've consciously chosen to not worry unless the smoking started to increase. So far, every week that passes, I smoke less than the week before. I haven't hit zero yet but I'm starting to see it from here.

Yeah this is my fear. I do think I have an 'underlying' condition...

Well, that wouldn't be all that unusual nor unexpected. Not everybody who smokes is prone to depression and/or anxiety but people prone to depression and/or anxiety are often prone to smoking. But if you're just a few days in, it's hard to say anything. I know I got a bit... jittery? at first. But I don't know if it was anything but the increased energy and oxygen. I seemed to want to get up and do something. Like I had extra energy to burn. Which I haven't had in so long, it seemed weird. :)

I can't help but think you should just watch what happens for a while. You're shifting around habits and rituals and chemicals and addiction stuff... it easily could seem weird at first. Question is, is the smoking slowing down? If so, be happy. :)

I picked up a vaporizer a week ago to quit. That was stupid! Realized I wouldn't be making an immediate switch after probably my second hit. Boy was I confused!

Spent a week hitting the vape, still smoking the analogues. Probably increased my nic levels more than normal (was a single pack a day for 20 years prior to that). Vaping just didn't feel the same. I tried to cut back on regular smokes, and towards the end of the week I had made some progress, maybe a 25% decrease. Hey, that's better, right?

Then I found my mistake: I was smoking crap out of crap. Had three analogues yesterday morning, with heavy use on the vaporizer. Swung by a local shop to get some juice. Holy crap. Found some really nice stuff that had some of the sweetness I like, but with a good tobacco flavor as well. Picked up an ego twist (think that's what y'all call it, with the variable voltage dial at the bottom. Still not ideal for me, but a heck of an improvement) and a tank. Bam. Had 7 analogues all day yesterday, lowest total for a 24-hour period in as long as I can remember.

Right now it's 11:30 AM, and I'd normally be on analogue number 11 by now. Today's total? ZERO.

My tip for anyone wanting to trade e-cigs for analogues: find some juice that has a bit of a tobacco flavor. Sure get that sweet/fruit/bakery/whatever flavor, too. But have some tobacco stuff just in case. It helped me immensely. Don't expect to switch suddenly. Maybe you can, maybe you can't. If you can, cool. If not, who cares? One less analogue a day is still progress! Eventually you'll get there and make the switch, too.

^great advice. I've finally found some flavors that further reduce my desire for the real thing. Turns out I've been vaping crap.

My other tactic has been to stop stressing so much about the smoking thing, I put too much thought into quitting and that was the true problem. I've decided taking it slow and easy, smoking when I get a genuine craving, even my doctor suggested this.

Last 2-3 days no genuine cravings, had about 2 cigs just to see if some feeling of lethargy I had was because of the abstinence, it wasn't :)

I'm on about day 5 or 6 now of vaping. Initially I found e-cigs made my cravings go away, to me it the way I can describe it is like if you are hungry and craving a meal, and take a magic pill that makes you feel full, you never got the satisfaction of eating that meal but you feel satisfied enough to not eat.

I'm finding vaping I can feel like a pack-a-day smoker with 1-2 cigarettes a day, as in I'm don't feel I am sacrificing anything. But last 2 days I made the decision to avoid analogs and I'm getting that familiar anxiety I got when I quit cold turkey, like I'm giving something up, and it eats at you until you want to give in. But I'm holding out, and tweaking my habits to see a difference. I know about WTA's and snus but really I want to just forget about it all for good, hopefully my mind will adjust to my will.

Anyone experience something like this or different?

I am also fairly new to Vaping. With me I don't think it was all about Nicotine in general. It was about the "moment". Taking a break at work, after a dinner night out, during drinking with friends, or whatever "triggers" that "I need a smoke" feeling.

I have been Vaping for about Three months at this point and I think It's getting better and better after figuring out what works for me and what doesn't. The first month or two I used my PV and smoked about 4-5 analogs a day. Analogs we're less and less over the weeks as I figured out how to include my PV during my day to day environment. As of about three weeks ago I have been completely off Analogs and don't miss them, although I do have to say every now and then I hit my shirt pocket to check if my "cigs and lighter" are with me. Probably kinda like someone who losses a limb feels an itch or pain in a arm or leg or something they lost years ago. It wasn't just an instant stop smoking situation with me, as i'm sure it wasn't with alot of people, and I find now that I can incorporate my vaping with my smoking life and friends along with my non smoking friends now without "offending" them with my bad smoky smell or nasty ashes or butts.

I really like to smoke and didn't really want to quit until I found this alternative.

I switched from analogs by starting with cigarette style ecigs. Problem I had was battery would die, and I'd end up buying cigarettes. Quick Google search for longer lasting ecig battery lead me to an ego style battery. I used that with a nova tank for a while. I was off analogs for about 2 months and bought a pack of cigarettes in January to go to a party, as I knew the ecig wouldn't cut it while drinking. I was wrong. I had to force myself to smoke the analogs. I live in New York, and didn't want to spend $10 on a pack of cigarettes to just throw them out. I have since updated to an 18650 battery mod and haven't looked back! So glad I learned from my experience in January. Now I know my ecig is all I need!

I bought my first real setup last Saturday afternoon, right before an hour+ car ride to a pre-concert party and plenty of drinking. I vaped coffee flavored juice all the way up and the whole time we were there, having only one analog at the end of the night. I really wasn't expecting to "quit", figuring I'd hold out for as long as I could, smoke one, and just not worry about it.

Here I am, five days later, and no more analogs. I'll admit to craving one once in a while, and I'll still allow myself to have one if I really, really want it. I've been a PAD smoker for the last twenty some years; another few weeks or months of limited use won't cause me any more damage. All of that said, I'm encouraged by my five day vape-a-thon, and now KNOW I can get through this.

Give yourself a break, find another few flavors, and keep on keepin' on. You CAN do it.

Lol, and yeah. I got in the car an hour ago to run a few errands. The first thing I did after pulling out of the parking lot was reach for the pack of smokes that used to sit in my dashboard. Oops! Changing the physical and mental habits my be harder than giving up the sticks.
