One of my 3 $16.50 Kf31 clones is a lost case. Today, quite desperate with it I tried a new buid and, while priming it, I decided to attach the tank without the chimney to taste it (I usually do it with the chimney). To my surprise it worked and I started looking for ways to use it in rda mode. Found one for a Kayfun Lite that really blew me with its ingenuity and simplicity, but as you know, the KfL has a plugged fill hole. Then, looking for a suitable plug for the deck hole of the 3.1 I tried a common wood toothpick. Clipped one point, stuck it in and then clipped it at the (new shortened tank, as per the link) level. Made a dripable (long) cotton wick, wound it on the base and screwed the top without the o-ring. Removed the screw type mouthpiece and replaced the 510 drip adapter with a suitable tip –a straight one from an Aerotank- and saturated it. No more leaks José! ;)

PS, don't have a camera with me right now but will post pics in the evening.

PS 2, flavor doesn't suffer a bit, rather the opposite and the clouds are like a steam locomotive!

Does anyone know how to make vertical images display correctly?

Try "spinning" the image around on your desktop prior to uploading it. By spinning it I mean rotate it 360 degrees in the viewer, then save it....for some reason this works for me....give it a try!

Odd since 360 is FULL circle.
I normally rotate 90 degrees left or right as needed.

Op
+1 for inginuity
-2 for not figuring out how to keep the Kayfun working.
Drippers are purpose built and cheaper :D

I know....it sounds weird & counterproductive, but it's what works for me... :)

It works when your pic is already aligned properly (on your desktop), but then when you upload it for some reason it goes sideways.....I just usually rotate it 360 deg. and re-save it....then, when you upload it, it's aligned properly on ECF....don't ask me why it works, but it does!! haha :D

From your Phone maybe? Probably the Viewer is making them look correct on the Desktop. Doing the Rotation is actually giving them a Fixed top up position once saved.
Easy test, direct save and look at one in the file view. Should be sideways.

omg thank you for this post!! i remember reading about turning a kayfun/91 into a dripper before i got mine and it's working for now as a tank, BUT I have been disappointed with finding a new dripper for single coils that aren't super airy. your fix would make a perfect new dripper for me :) I love the design of my russian clone and quality is far superior to any dripper clones i have tried lately, so kudos for problem solved for me!

i love it! thank you SO much. no more experimenting with products = i can use what i know

Hi Juice!

Sorry for missing your post and thanks for the kudos. Since my OP I've got me a couple of real RDA's and I'm liking them a lot, some better than others, but —guess what? I'm still using two of my cheap k.fun clones as dedicated drippers and they are in some instances the best single coil drippers I've got.

As tanks I could never make these particular specimens hermetic at the fill valve. I would fill them in a dozen ways and they still leaked, even with the fill holes at the deck plugged. The fit between the tank sections was poor and the chimney would never make a decent seal at the top.

Now, as dedicated drippers they have very distinct advantages above my true drippers. For starters, the body is screwed into the deck, so there's no accidental popping off if I place my mod in my jeans pocket. They do not leak! (can I say it again? They positively do not leak <vbg>).

Building is as easy as it gets (try an Igo W2 sometime ;)) and changing wicks is also a snap. AFC is real simple and stays set —without drilling and/or constantly repositioning the cap or ring– and the juice capacity is amazing; something like 30 drops! To drip, I either just unscrew the mouthpiece or, if using the 510 adapter, pop it and drip down the side (avoiding droping directly into the airhole, although it's quite inconsecuential thanks to the catch chamber.

Last but not least, the flavor is on par with a k.f.

Gotta love them!

PS, they perform better than my Atmomixani 3D (clone).

i was just thinking about this post last night and forgot how to turn it into a dripper! thank you for bringing this thread back up :) i like tight barrel drippers b/c they seem to be much for smooth vaping than a 22mm dripper. this should be perfect and much easier to use than my old phoenix drippers which are my absolute favorite for flavor and vapor. they are wearing out on me now

Thanks to you for the kudos, Juice!

I own several drippers, from an A9 (which is surprisingly good and looks perfect atop a 15mm battery) to an Igo-W2, intended for quad coils and a true <female dog epithet> to build with its tiny allen screws to fix the negative leads.

That said, the transformed Kfs, even as not remotely intended to be used as drippers, have some great features used as such. The coil (or coils) placed right over the airflow function like no othet dedicated dripper. The amount of cotton base feeding the wicks beat almost any other dripper I've laid my hands on, and the ease of build, plus the amount of juice they will hold before giving you a semi-dry hit make them among of my faves.

It's quite true the comment about the poor airflow, and I've been thinking on wys to improve that, but I'm weary of breaking something that doesn't really needs fixing.

There is a "fix" to the poor airflow on a Kayfun "dripper", but after the fix it can not be used for a tank system ever again.
What I did to one of my Kayfun Lite clones that I use as a dripper is drill two small holes (180 degrees apart) into the top cap from the bottom of the top cap, located so the holes come out on the top of the top cap on the flat area next to the center raised part that the drip tip inserts into. Start out with small holes and increase size until you get the air flow that suits you. I also drilled the bottom of the top cap with a 7/16 inch drill bit to create a "cone" shape where the small oring was located. You only want to drill a small amount of depth, so as to not get it too thin. I also use a nano kit to get the top away from the coil to keep the heat to the drip time down a bit. I run either single or dual coils. At the present I have a tripled twisted 28 ga single coil with .38 ohms in it which I think is a little too much. I think a double twisted 28 ga single coil around .6 ohms will be better.
I get good flavor and good vapor production.
It is just another "toy" for me to play with and it gets a lot of attention at the local vape shops I go to.

I was thinking of driling the tank section, about level with the coil. What's your opinion? It seems much easier.

I think you might have juice leaking down the outside of the tank section under your air holes from the condensing vapor. When I remove the top cap from mine to add juice, I have a lot of condensed juice on the bottom side of it.
