i watched a video on how to do it, i did everything right, it was working fine and then all of a sudden it started gurgling and leaking so i had to throw it out and put a new coil head in. did i do something wrong or does this happen sometimes?

Yes it seems to happen all the time, and for me the hardest part of cleaning/dry burning coils was that stupid "flavor wick", that sits right on top of the coil itself, and sticks out those little openings on the sides.

However I did finally fix my issues along these lines. There is a type of cotton yarn called "Peaches and Cream" which you can get at Walmart, in the "Notions" area; this stuff is GREAT, it carries a lot of flavor because it's cotton, but most importantly, it has a bit of a nap to it, so it's very absorbent, and fixes those leaks!

I boiled mine first, since I have no idea "where's it's been"; it's not so much a sanitation issue as a flavor issue. Once it's dry, put a bit of it on top of the coil (yes a whole strand, no need to unravel the yarn), put the chimney and rubber gasket thingie back on it, and trim the wick so it just sticks out, not a lot, just enough to catch some juice. It should fix the leaking.

I think Andria's got it right. The original flavor wicks on those are two 1mm silica wick strands laid parallel. I generally find them not reuseable, and replace with P&C after dry burning. Too little flavor wick and they'll leak and gurgle. Too much and you have to draw too hard and that, too, will cause leaks.

I like the yarn because it's easy :)

Others tease their cotton wicks out of sterile cotton balls and such. Going that way, you get to experiment until you find the amount that works well for you.

The kind they had at my local walmart was white, but I don't suppose the color makes a bit of difference. It really does work well.

David, I was finding that I was still getting a *tiny* bit of leak/gurgle, so I tried what you said about a whole piece of yarn, plus one strand unraveled; it worked well to fix the leaks, but it very often gives that horrible dry hit taste. Normal? I went back to just a single piece of the whole yarn, no extra strand, and stopped getting the dry hit taste so much. But I still get it if I'm really chain vaping, like in the morning. I've started just using the cartos then, because when I'm desperate for the nicotine, I just ain't in the mood to baby the durn tank, or wait 3 mins between hits on it. :D

Actually, I find I'm using these cartos more and more, so I probably will end up just going with the carto-tanks, and all this grief with the T3S's will be moot. From what was said earlier in the vv3 thread about the IBTanked 19mm being less top-heavy than even that tiny Mini PT II, I think that a IBTanked may be right around the corner! :D

White or "natural" is best, so you don't have to be concerned about the dye that makes the colors. I don't bother boiling, as I feel there's so little there... and personally find it's flavor - which goes away very quickly - doesn't bother me. (Conversely, I'm one of those who does taste a flavor in cartos, and it doesn't go away.)

Any thing can be overvaped (hey, I don't care that the spell checker is telling me that's not a word! ;) It's an evolving language folks!) by chain vaping. But you don't normally need to wait 3 minutes between draws. And running too high a power level will make it worse.

Try fluffing out the yarn where it exits the cap, that may help. If you're getting dry hits, try drawing a little easier. And maybe turn the power down a tad. You can burn cartos, too, and then it's not a question of replacing the wick, but the carto.

Hmm... actually I find that with cartos, I don't need to turn it so high, to get the same effect. Maybe it's just the fact of the carto being shorter than the tank, so closer to the coil, so I get the heat to make a good throat hit, without needing to turn it so high. and these cartos are registering 2.9 Ω but I still don't need to go past 4.5, and usually lower; 4.2-4.4 seems about right with these std Ω cartos. The only bad taste I've gotten from the cartos so far was when it really needed to be topped up a little; just ever so slightly dry, but not a massive huge taste of BLEAH like I often find I get with the tanks.

I did try something, RE: what we discussed about higher nic/more PG -- I put about 1ml of PG in a needle-top bottle, and put in about 5-10 drops of 24mg PG-blend Virginia, and it did seem to help a good deal. Maybe I should get the 12mg Virginia, and whatever the volume, mix in 50% that much PG, to bring it down to 9mg, but making it higher PG than the 85% in the standard blend. Because this juice is a very light-tasting juice anyway, but adding more PG and just ever so slightly raising the nic level, might give me a much more satisfying vape, according to my own specs.
