I have a mesh Themis coming and was curious about dry firing and hot spots. Do you have to dry fire and do something to remove hotspots? Like scrape the mesh or brush it? I watched that one reviewer who sounds Nordic? Maybe and didn’t see him removing hotspots. I did hear him say kanthal was better than the other two because it has a stable resistance. @Steve W Pedersen are you still using the mesh tank and got any tips for a rookie?also anyone else that can give me tips. I know kanthal, fold it in half, wicking is wicking but don’t know about hotspots, so anything about that and any tips would be great

I strongly recommend video by Daniel djl Vapes on the mesh.
I did dry fire it with no Wick installed and I never even noticed any hot spots or any issues so I just wicked it as per Daniels video which is 1/2 of one Muji cotton pad fluff the Tails just a little bit and away I went.
I'm still using the first coil and Wick haven't seen the need to switch them out in fact I am neglecting all of my other tanks as this mesh tank has been working just so well for me. I'm going to order two spools of Kanthal mesh and that will probably last me for a year.

my puff counter on this tank is currently showing over 6000 Puffs I've put tank after tank after tank of liquid through it and it just keeps rocking my world. This themis mesh tank is amazing. and so dead easy to wire and wick even with my stiff fingers and bad eyesight.
That’s great to hear, I too have bad eyes and hands so I was encouraged by the ease of building. Daniel is the guy I watched. He was the Nordic sounding man I spoke of, I just didn’t see him dry fire. Anyway thanks for the tips and I’m excited to try this thing out. It’s coming from China so it may be awhile but I won it so it makes waiting easier.

I order Themis mesh vers from Fasttech together with a roll of ni80 mesh wire... I believe it will take at least 15 days to reach me.

Hey @Steve W Pedersen i was curious if you’ve tried to put a big single coil in the mesh version? Also has anyone heard if they will sell the decks by themselves? It would be nice to have both decks since they are compatible with the tank. I’m excited to try this tank. If it works for me as well as it has for other people it would be awesome. Seems like it’s so much easier to build than a standard coil. With my bad eyes and shaking hands regular coils take me longer than it should. The mesh seems like a snap, can’t wait. Also Steve have you tried the ss and nicrome 80 mesh? Is it true the kanthal is the way to go? I might order some ahead of time if that’s the case

I haven't tried putting a regular coil on the mesh although it's supposed to be doable I totally agree with you that it would be great if they would sell the deck separately or come out with a kit with both decks.
I ended up buying both versions of the themis. And the regular coil version is just sitting here un opened, hard to get excited about doing a regular build while my mesh is treating me so well.
I've only used the recommended Kanthal and I have some spools of Kanthal on order so I honestly don't have any idea how well the other wire types will work for you.
wicking and coiling the mesh took me literally Less Than 3 minutes I timed it cuz I wanted to know normally with any of regular coil builds on my tanks takes me up to 15 to 20 minutes but coiling and wicking the mesh was just so dead easy my hands didn't even hurt when I was done.

Gods of vaping must have heard me gushing too long and too loud about this tank just started getting a burnt flavor to my vape going to open it up in a few minutes and have a look with as many tanks of juice as I put through it it's not too surprising that it needs fresh wire and Wick.

Okay the flat head grub screws really have to go on this tank I'm placing an order for some replacement grub screws the flatheads where Just a pita to use.
What screws are you ordering? Don’t they have to have a slot in the other end to lock into the clamp side so the clamp gets pulled by the screw? Also can you share what screws you’re getting because I’m not a fan of flathead either. Thanks for the help you’re providing me with and if at any point I am annoying you just tell me to “piss off and figure it out yourself” I can handle it. I do appreciate the help and I love that you can build so quick. I hate having to sit and tinker with a deck, it’s murder on my back so this mesh has me excited.

ithink back in this thread there is a link to amazon bag of screws , I'm going to try those and see if they works there are only a few bucks for like a bag of 20 or something like that if they don't fit it's no great loss. I'm happy to answer any questions you have but I really can't tell you about stuff I haven't tried with it yet maybe the other wire types are great maybe not so much I just don't know . for me I'll just stick with Kanthal, from what I know of other mesh tanks in the past stainless steel doesn't do well but that's all second hand info I just sort of picked up.

I have gone ahead and ordered the grub screws however I'm really not sure if they are the correct fit so I am hesitating to post a link that will end up losing people time and money once I receive these grub screws and make sure that they fit I'll go ahead and post up the link I just hate the idea of me costing people money or time.

Thanks I appreciate it. How is the Themis performing? Still like the vape you’re getting? Mine left China a few days ago so it will be another week or two before I have it but any information about this tank is scarce. For the mesh version anyway.

The mesh tank has for me been absolutely my go-to tank day in and day out I did have to rewick and replace my mesh once already but that was after probably dozens of Tanks of liquid through it I'm very thoroughly pleased with the this themis mesh tank. So far I haven't had any issues with dry hits and that was something a lot of folks have had issues with on other mesh tanks this really has just been a super easy no hassle RTA.

Hey @Steve W Pedersen, have you by chance tried using the Vapefly mesh from their rebuildables that use mesh? They are cheap and instead of a U coil you get a [ shaped coil except turned 90*. Seems like it would be a way to mount a higher coil without increasing wick. It would put the coil higher into the airflow and you wouldn’t have to trim the tails as excessive. If anyone else reading this with any experience please share. I’m not seeing a lot of information about the Themis mesh version in reviews. Seems everyone has the dual coil version.
