distilled water in recipes

So I have been getting into diy over the last couple months and have been using 100% vg since I have a sensitivity to pg. The vg is fairly thick, and is having problems flowing well for me. I've heard people have used distilled water in their mixes to thin it out.

What are the recomended max percentages of distilled water to vg? I mixed up some tonight at 70vg, 30dw and it seems to be thinner, but i'm not sure how it is going to vape though.

Any tips or advice is appreciated.

Test a small (say, 5 ml) batch of juice -----
Add distilled water, a drop or two at a time, and "test-vape" it in a drip atty......
When you hit "pay dirt".....note the quantity added to the 5 ml.....and multiply it by the TOTAL juice amount....
Ie., 3 drops/5ml.....9 drops/15ml......etc.

It depends on what sort of device you are using. I have 3 and 5ml cartomizers that won't wick unless I dilute the VG with about 10% water. I'd imagine you could get by with less water in a tank . You just have to experiment and see what works best with your gear.

I'd say that 30% distilled water is likely way too much, and would thin the vapor too much. Usually 10-20%, maximum, depending upon the VG.

I also avoid PG, and I usually do fine with 10-15% distilled water for any VG that I have used.

I would say that a 9:1 Ratio of VG to H₂O (10%) would be a good place to start.

As with All Things DIY, it all gets down to Personal Taste. And takes a little Experimentation.

It seems to vary from person to person but it's runs in my mind that I've seen more posts mention 10% max. For me it's about 2% in some of my 50/50 mixes.

Could also try PEG400 if you're sensitive to PG. Has miniscule throat hit compared to pure VG/Water. Flavour Art from Italy offers also something called 'sharpener' which is supposed to add throat hit to high/pure VG liquids. Didn't try it yet, so I can't tell if it delivers - but FA is considered good hi-quality stuff, so it might indeed live up to its promise...

Thanks for the feedback. Im going to do a few mixes at varying percentages 5, 10, 15, 20 and see what works best. I primarily use a protank, but I think the biggest decision will be my wife LOL

It would be great to hear what you decide. I had to move to VG and have been getting MBV 70VG/30DW but the flavor is just not what I am looking for. I have DIY stuff on the way and a recipe to try out but if the DW is the flavor killer then I will have to try some of the other options.

The flavor in my 70/30 mix is only slightly lighter. The big change was throat hit... there is almost none with thatt much water. Im mixing some tomorrow, so will be trying varying levels of water.

I'm using 80% VG and flavor+water=20%
