For all you Veteran vapers out there, what are some of the things needed to make my own juices? Also is there a learning curve or is this something a relatively new vaper could handle?

Well I'm not much of a veteran, but I did start DIY'ing within a month of quitting smoking. Certainly can be done, but as with e-ecigs, there is both a learning and experience curve. Don't let it stop you though. Read and research. The first thing needed is knowledge. After that you generally need the following components:

Nicotine Base Solution (Nicotine in a solution of PG/VG or both)
VG and/or PG
Flavoring
Pipettes or Syringes
Gloves
An e-juice mixing calculator (Online or Downloadable)
Bottles

I have run a few batches of mixes and have found it quite simple. You need USP grade vegetable glycerin, USP grade propylene glycol, Nicotine base, flavor concentrates of your choosing, a few bottles to store and mix in (glass is preferred), as well as a few syringes ( 1ml in .1ml increments and a 30ml luer lock syringe w/ 14'sh gauge blunt tip needles for drawing out thicker liquids )

Also a good e-liquid calculator is very helpful. I like e-Liquid Calculator :: New recipe. A good recipe from others who have tried the mix before is a plus as well. Keep in mind that the flavor will develop as the separate components mix an 'fuse' w/ each other (research 'steeping eliquid').

-good luck and happy vaping-

Thank you so much! My question to you is do i have to use a nicotine base?! i am at a 0mg and i would prefer to stay at that.

you do not have to use a nic base in fact when I am chasing clouds I make a special batch with no nic and just flavoring it works fantastic I add a little menthol to simulate a throat hit though.

+1 No nic is needed. Keep in mind that more PG= more throat hit more VG= smoother and sweeter vape than higher PG ratio.

Nicotine Base (100% VG). Start with 50mg strength or less to begin with until you are confident that you can accomplish spill-free mixing. Then buy 100mg base. I freeze my base for storage but never keep more on hand that I can use up within 18 months, even if frozen. This may change if a nicotine base apocalypse happens.

VG. Glycerin USP. Buy bottles small enough that you will use up any opened bottles completely within 18 months of opening.

Graduated cylinders. I use four. I have two 100ml, one 25ml and one 10ml. Unbreakable Nalgene is fine with me.

Pipettes. Disposable plastic.

Skin protection for 100mg base. Disposable plastic gloves.

Eye protection. Protective plastic glasses.

Pure water. Distilled water.

Cleaning labware. Antibacterial dish washing soap.

Storage bottles. Glass Boston round bottles for freezer storage of base or diluted base. Buy amber glass lab bottles with PolySeal lined caps. Plastic or glass bottles for finished juice.

As I mix unflavored juice only these are all the materials I need. For mixing flavored juice I might need some additional items, maybe not.

I would say go with syringes (with large-bore needles) rather than pipettes. PG and especially VG are pretty viscous and what's left in a pipette will throw off your ratios.

Also most flavorings are PG-based, so it can be hard to get a 100% vg mix.
I use 5% distilled water in my 95% VG mixes. I use the H2O to rinse nicotine and base carrier leftovers out of the lab ware before adding it to the mix.

Anybody got a link for these types of bottles? With the PolySeal caps? Thanks in advance

The best calculator out here anywhere. Especially for a beginner.

http://www.ejuice.breaktru.com/

Get a dripping atty as well, your going to need it for testing.
Phoenix 5, should do, but any of the IGo's will work too.

Start with 10ml batches. They are easiest to manage, get already 10 syringes, any feed store will have them. 5 or 6 should be 3ml, 2 x 10ml. Then blunt needles, at least ten, several pink, I think those are 20ga, 3 x 18ga, and some larger ones, the green ones.

Learn about steeping, there is really only one method, juice will determine length of time.

Leave open for 24 hours, shake and store method. There is no alternatives. Do not waste your time on them, (such as Sonic Cleaner methods, they can maybe work with some juices, but not guaranteed.).

Start off with little flavor, 5% is generally to much. 1 to 3%, and that depends on the flavor. Sweetness=1 or less, tobaccos=3% or less to start with. You will have to experiment. Some juices won't taste good at all till they steep.

There is more but I can't finish right now.

Whole books can be written in this subject.

It is science, chemistry, and culinary arts all rolled into one. You can't succeed missing one of those things. They go together.

Good luck

Note: Get 100 mg Nic base in VG.
This will go farther for the money, and it's easier to calculate.

Get a Nic testing kit, that is a must.
Test when you get it.

Buying and storing Nic base is a whole different topic.

Don't put Nic in juice til you are satisfied with flavor, even though it may change the flavor a little.

Read, research and read more, this is a very in-depth topic that is hard to answer all at once.

Last, be careful, Nic is poisonous.

Something else that needs to be noted. While we do not eat vapor, we do inhale it into our body. I have played a bit with DIY and have enjoyed the results. i followed as closely as I could, the same food safety procedures I follow when I can food. I am not sure what bacteria can survive in e-juice and I really don't want to be the test subject to find out. Let's all remember this is very like preparing a great meal rather than a fun chemistry project...although in reality, it can be both! Let's have fun, make great juice and be safe!
