Hey Guys

Great forum - Loads of great stuff!

I need some help from some experienced vapers. I've recently started making my own juices and have had mixed success. I'm trying to make really nice flavours.
My question is what is the best way to test my mixes as they steep without using a new new coil or re-wicking my deck?

I am trying to make notes on the flavours as they steep.

Any advice would be great folks! :)

Hello and welcome to ecf.
There really isn't any other way to test. Just pick up an easy to build/wick dripper and test away.

Hi Dave
You could try what I did which was take a small rda, I used my Ice3, and built a V shaped upright coil. I just drop a small ball of cotton in it, pack it in a bit and drip onto that. It'll hold about 3 drops and give 4 or 5 draws. Easy to pick the cotton out, dry burn the coil, and pop a new ball in. It was made for convenience and not great clouds or taste, but it works.

You could also use an old-school atty (with the mesh-covered atomizer in a tube) to drip a few drops on it and taste test it. Will give you a few hits anyway. Then dry burn it for next time's use. joyetech makes some shorty 510 connection ones and some Ego/510 threaded mega sized ones.

Are you located in the US by any chance? There are still some websites that have them, and usually at clearance prices.

Edit: These are the ones I got a bunch of, that I use to taste test my DIY eliquids. They're JoyeTech Mega Cone Shaped Atomizers (Ego/510 threaded only) that come in 1.5ohms and 2.0ohms. They're Clearance priced at only $.50 each now! Be sure to look further down the page and get some of the Mega Drip Tips (Type A) for them, too. They're now only $.10 each!!

Get a simple RDA and get dripping. You don't need to change the cotton that often, unless you switch from BBQ Burger flavor to Lychee Bavarian Creme. :)

I am not a fan of the small 'old school' 306 & 510 atomizers I have to say. Cheap, yes. Good, yes... but not as cheap as an RDA and you can't get much power through them.

For me, this is a moment for a Wotofo Sapor or Perti (clone). You want one with an easy top you pull off so you can access the coil.

They're not as cheap as an RDA? :?:
Atomizers above are on Clearance for $.50 each + $.10 for a mega drip tip that fits them. I've been using them for 1+ years so far...still firing up fine. Show me an RDA for less than $.50, that'll last a year or more, and I'll buy at least 50 of them in a heartbeat!

The power, for me personally, isn't a big deal since I use them just for taste testing new recipes...and at the same power I vape at normally. So I know however they taste and vape dripped in the atomizer, they'll taste & vape the same in my tanks.

I also have several IGO-L, Serpent Minis, and others, but I still use the 510 and mega atomizers for taste and vape testing new recipes. They just work for me - cheap, efficient, durable, get the job done, etc.. Maybe not for others though. That's another wonderful thing about DIY and vaping in general...lots of different means to reach the same end! :)

I guess you are lucky. They are about $6-7 (equivalent) here and rare as anything.
I used 306s for ages, but didn't find them particularly long-lasting.

Welcome and glad you joined. The best way I have found is use any single coil RDA which promotes quick insertion and extraction of new for old wick. Every time you taste, out with the old and in with the new wick. It does not get any simpler. Size of RDA and taste performance are secondary, all things being relative/equal.
