As a chem major, i'm excited to make my own liquids, but i guess that i need a comprehensive list of things to do.

From what i've gathered, i'll need PG, glycerin, and some lorann's flavorings...but i guess i'm just clueless from there.

PG/VG - where can i buy this (online/offline), and what ratio should i use
glycerin - same question
Lorann's - i went to the website, but i guess i'm not exactly sure what flavorings i should be getting. that website had about 20 different products - also, i need the ratio for this as well.

Sorry for the noob questions, but DIY liquids seemed like something a little bit more advanced for the new members section :)

As for the nicotine, i picked up the habit of smoking mainly from the fantastic oral fixation it provided (probably why it only took me 5 minutes to order an ecig after i frist heard of them), so 0 mg is fine with me, as long as it's inhalable.

You don't HAVE to use PG and VG (glycerin). I was able to get PG from my pharmacy, although they had to order it in for me. It was $8 for a 500ml bottle. Glycerin can be bought at a cake making/craft store like Michael's. The most popular brand seems to be Waltons. As for the Lorann Flavours, you can get them for really cheap on ebay. I would highly recommend cheesecake and chocolate lol

If you do a search for Lorann on here you should be able to find a spreadsheet of which flavours are better for your atomizer (as some do contain sugars and may not be soluable in water).

Hope this helps!

-PG and VG are pretty much interchangeable. Some prefer one over the other, I think VG is supposed to make more vapor and is slightly sweeter. It is also thicker.
-You want the super strength candy flavors from LorAnn.(I picked up 24 drams for $31 shipped on ebay;)) Make sure to check the ingredients, as there are some that could harm you/your atomizer. I think the rule is to not vape oils, as that could damage your atomizers. Some people stay away from colorings(red xx, blue xx, etc) but others(like Walrus) have found little or no issues with them. Also, for the most part, even though they're called oils, they have no oils in them. ;)
-Walrus has a blog post showing where he buys some things, you should check it out. I'd post the link but I can't. :(

Thanks for answering my question even though I never asked it...lol I was wondering about the flavoring oils, because all the flavor suggestions I had seen using Loranne flavoring was for the flavorings and not their flavor oils, among the bazillion things I do is make candy, and I have a lot of flavored oils around and I was wondering about that... Now reading this tread I see if I ever want to play I need to get just the flavorings...lol

Thanks :)

P.S if you make anything with water in it umm use it kinda fast or refrigerate water grows nasties really easy (don't know if it is true for juice but everything else....)

Well, everything is ordered, and i think i have a plan now, but let me know if any of this sounds wrong.

Ordered:
-100ml (5x20ml bottles) of 36mg flavorless from eastmall
-4 Drams (test flavors) of Lorann's super strength flavors (raspberry, Chocolate hazelnut, mint chocolate chip, and cheesecake)

Purchased:
- 1 liter PG from local pharmacy
- 500 ml bottle of glycerin (same pharmacy)
- labels
- sharpies

to steal: (from my chem lab)
-50ml graduated cylinder
-10(ish) 30ml bottles.
-2 100ml bottles (mixing/storage)
-small plastic funnel

Goal: 10 to 15 mg/ml nicotine ratio

Plan: (part 1)
1. dump single 20 ml bottle of 36 mg/ml flavorless into a 100 ml empty bottle
2. measure out 40 ml of PG, mix into same 100ml empty bottle.
3. measure out 20 ml of glycerin, mix into the same 100ml empty bottle
4. mix together.

Part 1 result:
[20ml/60ml = 33.3%]
[.333 * 36mg/ml = 12 mg/ml]
-80 ml of 12 mg/ml nicotine+pg+glycerin solution

Plan: (Part 2)
-Separate 80ml of 12 mg/ml nicotine+pg+glycerin solution into 4 30ml bottles, 20 ml of solution in each
-Empty 1 dram* of flavoring into one 20 ml of 12 mg/ml nicotine solution, rinse and repeat with the other flavorings, without mixing them.
-mix in flavorings thoroughly, close bottles tightly, safely store all excess material.

*1 dram = 1/8 of an ounce. 1 ounce = 30 ml. 30/8 = 3.75 ml (thanks walrus)

Part 2 results:
[3.75ml/23.75ml = 15.79%]
[.1579 * 12 mg/ml = 1.89 mg/ml]
[12mg/ml- 1.89 mg/ml = 10.11 mg/ml]
-4 30ml bottles filled with 23.75ml of 9.75 mg/ml nicotine solutions, with various flavors

Success! Any suggestions on how to modify this plan for more efficiency/quality? (or where i did my math wrong)

Im a chem major myself. Seems like gallons of PG and VG @ about $20 apiece isnt too bad. The thing that bothers me is buying premixed nicotine solution. I wish I knew what form of nicotine they mixed in it. I was checking Sigma Aldrich's website, but they have 10 different forms of nicotine, some liquids and some salts. I'd love to mix the stuff from scratch, seems it would make it more economical.

Part 1 is okay but for Part 2, I'd recommend mixing smaller amounts so you can determine if you like the flavor and at what strength before you use up all of your nic on something you don't like. (You have plenty of pg/vg so you might want to try mixing small bottles with no nic first) Start with a small sample of 3ml in a 5 or 6 ml bottle so you have room to adjust. Add 10% flavoring and see how that works for you. Keeping good notes is the best advice anyone can give you :) Once you get your ratios down, you can start mixing larger amounts. Good luck and happy mixing!
