Even with the benefit of lipo comparing a 1000 mah lipo VS a dual 18650 mod that can have like 5000mah worth of batteries. you should compare it with like a 2200mah lipo vs 5000mah 18650.
Don't bother, this was all explained a while ago......its just more negativity from someone who just wants to P in others cheerios

well I will the be the judge when I FINALLY get my dna together. but eh. I never get involved of the yihi VS evolv chip. yihi chips are great. so are evolv chips(well it did take several versions to fix the issues for the 40)

Still wondering if buying a temperature controlled solder iron is worth it or not

also been fiddling with my 3D printer since simplify3D finally has proper sharebot support

tumblr_nreaedlV8A1r31daro1_1280.jpg

bottom right screen bit warped abit but not too bad. the inside is pretty clean (except the printer tried to create a surface in the middle in the air for some reason). buttons need sanding but otherwise it seems fine. the chip fits pretty well. Can't use it with my lipo since its so long but this might be a fun little project next month.

I posted this over in the Boxer thread....According to an email I got from GV, they will soon be offering the Boxer in an Evolv DNA200 version to go along with their current Yihi SX350J version. Both pictured below.

DNA version looks to be slightly taller, but less wide and more pocket friendly. Didn't get any info from them re: LiPo battery used.

Think i'll need to pick one up to add to the collection! :)

Yes, if you're doing anything more than occasional soldering.
You'll have it for many years so it's worth it to get a good one. I'm using OKI's PS-900 for easy soldering of tiny surface mount components and 36AWG wire all the way up to 2AWG wire. Tips can be changed in 3-4 seconds. But I do a lot of soldering, almost every day, so it was worth the high cost. Any variable-temp units from Weller are also pretty good. Buy both smaller and larger chisel tips.

I've been using an Ungar 40w for 25 yrs. I bought Weller 40w about 6 months ago because I couldn't find new tips for the Ungar. The tips that came with the Weller aren't as good but it's been working fine for me. I noticed you really need to take care of the tips or they won't last (cheaper tips?). Most of the time, I would just put my Ungar away after use but with the Weller, I have to clean and tin before putting away or it looks corroded.

A good 40w is enough for most applications but technique is more important than the soldering iron, IMO.

I think I really need to get a bigger tip for the 14 gauge though. that thin tip seems to take too long.

temp control solder station is a must. if you do this I know you do other projects. can't have smd fry. Should get a rework too. depends how much you will use it I guess since it is not cheap. weller is very good if it is not a cheap one. anyways I can't build one will have to wait. I promise I won't p in anyone's cheerios but maybe in my pants lol. I mean because I will be so excited about it. I say no one needs 200w. bet I am there the first day! it is an amazing time now vape gear 3d printers make your own. beats rolling your own analogs.

Is this the enclosure from thingiverse? If yes, how does it feel?
I downloaded it and wanted to print it next week.
The encloser feels good. my print isn't perfect. the chip holders line up perfect. I managed to print it without supports fine. the sled for the back messed up for me (one corner lifted again) and I need to sand down the slots that fit in the grooves. Definitely don't want it to be too tight or you won't be able to get it open haha

I was thinking about cutting off (or removing it in the STL) the lower lid on the sled and put in magnets instead.
I have to wait another week though until it can get printed.
I'm not so sure yet about the position of the 510.

This thing is very clear on how everything runs. Don't know what to do about buttons . I guess I could get some printed buttons. will need to get a smaller battery for it though.

wonder if I can make it taller mmm so I can shove one of them 5000mah lipos in it :p
