I'm not downplaying the apparent issues with the DNA40 boards that some experienced, but Evolv has been one of the best things that has happened to vaping. Their history has been one of innovation and lifting the bar for other manufacturers. I don't think the one instance where they had an issue (and I have had no problems with four separate DNA40 devices/boards purchased over the past 8 months) is representative of the historical record or "past performance" of the company. Comparatively speaking, the Chinese manufacturers have been much more troubled with quality control than Evolv. The reports are that the DNA200 has not experienced a single screen glitch...I for one am taking the word of the good folks on the beta and will be buying Day 1.

It does seem to have issues with preheat though that hopefully get fixed before release.

I don't know what real failure rates are for Evolv or Yihi but by personal experience I've had 4 DNA 40's and three SX mini M class. (Actually I have been told the current failure rate for Evolv as of 5/1/15 by one mod maker who has become an almost constant contact, but it wouldn't be appropriate to quote him without his approval). All the DNA's had to be returned for board problems and so far in a month all the SX's have been great. I'm not ...definitely not saying Evolv won't produce reliable products but my experience hasn't been good. NO, I have not given up on Evolv but having been disappointed with over $1000 dollars of Evolv board mods I'm a little cautious. This is NOT anti or pro anyone. Being an engineer I understand how things can happen. At the same time personal experience is hard to ignore.

I fully understand the frustration that must go with having to return four DNA40s. I also have no doubt that Brandon and John are keenly aware of the need for a smooth launch with the DNA200 and it sounds like the beta has been handled very well to ensure such.

The beta process is no doubt key to a successful launch. Do you know (or could a beta tester comment) how long the DNA 200 has been in beta test? I'm asking because one youtuber mentioned a day or so ago that he had been asked to be a beta tester but hadn't yet received a unit to test.

Sorry, I have no idea. But a short term beta isn't necessarily the kiss of death if your sample size is large enough.

I wonder theyll be able to make a vaporflask with the same form and overall design since this new chip needs a 3s lipo? A lot of the form came from the 2 18650s in it.

Also Ive seen that this can take both 3s lipos and 3s lifepo4s but all I see being talked about people using in this thread is tthe lipos and not the lifepo4s. Is there any particular reason for this. I was under the impression they were safer and more rugged than lipos but i dont know much about either.

Yup, going the same route. And what's nice about the Whiteout is we know the LiPo will be removable since there will be the option to swap out the cell and battery sled and use a different board and 18650s.

Edit: here's the link of the announcement:

Cloudmaker Update #10: The Whiteout Evolved - DNA 200 Configuration! : electronic_cigarette
Looks like they are also going to be using well protected lipos and posting lipo safety basics for user on their website which I think is great.

The cldmkr looks amazing all around. I love that everything is customizable and now that dna200 is an option for it its even more appealing. Looks like it may be the dna 200 mod to beat.

I can't wait for the dna 200 to land because... as soon as it does I will be able to buy another dna 40 mod for peanuts.

dna40 prices are already coming down. Even in UK I can get a vaporshark with the 40D chip (rDNA40) for £99 instead of £149 as it was previously. The DNA40 is £89...in fact I am amzed that I havent pulled the trigger on one already...must be getting old!

Not sure which pics you referring to, my guess is the evolv beta mod? The mod using 3S lipo battery

Yes. The beta mod.

I guess the jist of my question is how big are the production mods going to be?

The beta seemed small for such large power requirments. Although I know nothing about other batteries.

The beta mod with a 900mAh 3s Lipo lasts me a full day+ of vaping a NI200 0.13 coil at 440F and 39w. I consider myself to be a moderate to slightly heavy user.

From left to right: iStick20, Beyang30, Invader mini, DNA200, Tibs2 (aka BAP), Hanna, Gdeal Squonker
All have almost identical battery life (in real life use) except the Tibs which is double the rest.
Except the beta, all others have a single 18650 with the Tibs (aka BAP) having 2 18650s.

Lively and entertaining first impressions discussion of beta DNA200.... as stated by these guys they recently joined the beta and have not checked out the software, firmware updates and etc. Just saying that things change frequently in most beta processes thus information shared here is only first impressions. I enjoyed their conversation.

Here it is for anybody interested.

They came down a couple of weeks ago. If you don't already have one, you should get one. I'm still really tempted to get another rDNA40 since it's my absolute favorite. The DNA40 is great for carrying around town. I also got a Hana v4 the same week as the DNA40 and just got a SX Mini M yesterday. So far, I'm not all that impressed with the SX Mini. I love the auto orientation screen but that's about it.

I don't think Evolv is selling mods but some chatter about selling the enclosures. Vaporshark showed a pic of their DNA200 and it looks a bit bigger than their rDNA40 so still smaller than a Hana box.

Gotcha! I was hoping that beta was the developers kit or something. I kind of liked the look of it.

So these will probably be big mods? I couldn't tell the size of the board form the pics. Then it needs batteries too.
