Haha... Christ I had a brain fart. It's been way too long since I've taken Physics. Just getting into rebuilds, had forgotten that lower gauge = lower resistance....

I see you're from the mean streets of Durham - I'm a North Carolinian as well. Used to hop over to Shooters on occasion when I went to UNC.

Haha shooters! I'm a duke alum. That place....... Memories. Wet, sticky, sweaty memories. You'll know what I mean.

ETA: it's not what you fellas with dirty minds think

ni200 clapton.jpg
just tried my first spaced coil on a spare zenith, couldn't bare to do it with plain wire so i did a ni200 clapton with 29g ni200 core wrapped in 29g ni200. This thing is amazing, not sure if i have seen a clapton done for temp control but you have to try it.

came out at 0.12ohm at 450f and 40w i cant even get it to throttle down but its chucking thick vapor and the flavour is better than a kanthal clapton.

Looks nice man. My vs dna40 and nickel wire are out for delivery today so I will be experimenting with different builds this weekend.

Hello guys I need your help. I bought a vaporshark rdna 40 and I want to buy nickel wire for my kayfun builds.
Since I haven't bought NR wire before I wanted to ask you. Currently I am running normal 28g kanthal a1 microcoils (around 1,4-1,5ohm), what gauge of Ni200 should I buy to match that?
Thank you in advance.

I'd buy 28ga myself but it is different wrapping coils with Ni.

So with the nickel builds, I see the majority of the coils ohm out super low. Do you treat the super low builds the same as kanthal? Also what about battery safety? Is this any different or the same principle?

The chip takes care of temp control. Set the desired temp and wattage and the chip will deal with what gets sent to the coil. It's weird at first I know.

Just some thanks for the hard work ya'll went through sorting this DNA 40/Nickel 200 issue, here's my success:

DNA40 from Protovaper, twisted 30 gauge Ni200/Kanthal, 3mm coils 6+ turns, maybe .2 ohms, spaced coils, magma dripper. No matter how crappy it looks, it vapes just fine, and the kanthal in the twist makes it tough enough to use thru hole post mounts and multiple cotton changes (fyi, cotton washes clean, no burns).

Oh, settings are 370 Deg F and 11-12 watts, why? , the Ni/K fools the temp controller due to the parallel resistances and kanthal's minimal coefficient, Set 370 equals 410 actual temp.

For me, the twisted Ni/K has been a flawless experience, plus, the helical geometry adds an extra 30% resistance, due to the length of wire increase. Actually the calcs said 50% increase in a 24 full twists per inch, but the DNA read only a 30% increase (7" of twist compared to 7" 30 gauge Ni).

So again thanks ladies and gentlemen for making my transition into the vaping world pretty painless

I wondered about this too when I first found Battery drain | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators
But the battery drain is only dependent on the watts you set and the efficiency of the voltage transformation. So at 40 watts with 95% efficiency and 3.5 battery voltage you will only have 12 ampere draw. No matter what coil resistance.

Does anyone know if the ni200 has the same/similar heating properties as other nickel/nichrome blends?

Hard as heck to find vaping stuff in these neck of the woods, but I found a place that sells nickel 32 gauge wire... doesn't state the purity, but resistance is 0.125 ohms/meter. ni200 perhaps?

NI200 is just 99.5% pure nickel so any pure nickel should work fine. Just no alloys like nichrome. 0.125 ohm/meter seems like the wrong unit or something it should be somewhere around 2.9 Ohm/m for AWG32 (0.2mm diameter) nickel wire.

It's normally sold in vape shops as "non resistance wire".

You could also search jewelry supply shops. Titanium wire works too.
