Do I clean my atomizer?

Probably a stupid question. I have a joye ego and like to switch up between flavors while vaping. I only have 2 atomizers, but many flavors. Should I clean the atomizer between each flavor? By clean, I mean to just blow out all the excess liquid into a paper towel or something.

Like I said, it's probably a stupid question. Things that come to mind is that I would get a mix of flavors in each vape or that things could get gunked up inside the atomizer.

Thoughts?

You can do that (and reprime with the new juice), or not bother if they are compatible flavors, or some vape flavorless between two flavors, or some actually blow out and rinse their atomzier then reprime it with liquid.

I prefer my main flavors totally separate so I use cartomizers. There are few other flavors I do drip on a standard atomizer (on a sealed manual battery) and I usually just blow it out and reprime though that does not accomplish a clean switch of flavors at all. And I clean my atomizers periodically. But I never had much luck with keeping atomizers working as well as when new. Gonna get an Ultrasonic cleaner and try that. Also gonna trying a brand new atty and rinsing it every day I use it (which is about once every 3 weeks)

By reprime - I mean drip a few drops onto the bridge /\ and wait for that to soak in.

NOTE - if you are using auto batteries or any battery with an open hole in the middle of the threaded end then you need to be very careful your atomizer does not leak. You can damage or kill your battery with juice leaks.

I learned a little something at VaperCon from another vapor, He kept a bottle of 65/35 PG/VG with a few menthol crystals dissolved in the 10 ml bottle. When he tired of a flaor he vaped this clear pg/vg liquid for a few minute and it seemed to "clean" the atty from the previous flavor...I have tried this method since then myself and it seems to work out well...I dont think the menthol is very important just PG/VG would work, but vaping it out tastes a bit better with the menthol..hope this helps a bit

Hello there dormouse!

:thumb:

Very good advice!

Just want to say that I drop my atomizers into a coffee cup filled with VERY HOT WATER and let them sit until the water is cool.
This cleans the atty very well, as you can see when you look into the cup of water once it is cool!
I then rinse by running a small stream of water from the faucet into the atomizer.
If the water comes out from the bottom (threaded) end in a stream instead of drips, you know you're gunk-free!
I then blow from the top part through the atty towards the bottom threaded part to push the excess water out.
I let dry and I am ready to go.
Very simple and very effective!

Also, KEEPING THE ATOMIZER GUNK-FREE helps to avoid the bad taste and the overheating; overheating and dry heating will kill your atomizers!

If you are in a hurry, you can use pliers to hold the atomizer in a stream of hot running water out of the faucet.
This is great if you're just switching flavors and not really gunked up yet.
You still have to blow out the excess water and let them dry a little while before you re-prime the atty and go!

Thank you all for the advices on cleaning.
Mg7454, can I do this with all atomizers (f.e. Ego-T LR and normal)?

Hello FaniFox!
I only have 510 atomizers and cartomizers.
I do not know about the other types.
It would probably be fine.
I would research it a bit more if I were you, unless you just want to try with an old one and see.

I have very bad luck with cleaning atomizers.
Once they get that burnt taste I have tried to boil them for 3 minutes (Ego-T Atty).

Guess I am doing something wrong, because those atty's (after boiling) still will not get rid of the burnt taste, and I end up getting a new one.

  • Do you wait until they get the burned taste before you try to clean them?
  • Do you let them get really hot when in use?
  • Maybe you could try to clean them more often.
  • Let them sit in a cup of very hot water until the water is cooled.
  • You can heat up a cup of water in the microwave and put the atomizer or cartomizer in the hot water.
  • You can hold the carto or atty w/ pliers and run hot tap water through every couple of days.
(Or more often if you burn them too hot and they are gunked up and taste bad.)

Getting cartos and atties too full of gunk will cause them to taste bad and overheat.
Getting cartos and atties too hot will cause them to burn out.

I'm sure there are other ideas on the matter.
I do not know all of the answers, just what works for me, and what I have read.

Good luck!

Attys should be cleaned on a regular basis. The definition of regular kind of depends on the juice you are vaping. When I use my attys I clean them at the end of a day of vaping.

My method is pretty easy. Just drop it into a cup of hot water before you go to bed. In the morning take it an blow out any excess water. Drip on 7 drops fs juice and blow followed by 4 drops of juice an blow again. Then 3 drops an start vaping. Time from cup to vaping- less then 1 min.

I haven't had that much luck with cleaning out my attys and cartos with water or vodka. Some died and some ended up tasting rather nasty. I started using 306s on my Riva and USB plug in. I just use only one juice for one atty. And cycle a group (Wonder if that would be a flock or pride of attys.) ;) So far they have lasted longer than I thought they would. I have some that are a couple of months old. Just don't let em get too hot and blow them out once every day or so. Still working and haven't started to taste bad.

I tried something new tonight as far as cleaning my atty's. I have been blowing them out to clean them, battery end down, until no more juice was expelled. I remembered reading that you could tie them up in a cloth with a piece of string and twirl them around using centrifugal force to clean it more thoroughly. After blowing it out I wrapped it in a paper towel and stuck it into an old sock (clean and no holes lol) battery end pointing towards the toe and grabbing the sock by the open end firmly and began twirling it in a circular motion as fast as I could get it to go. I was amazed at how much more juice was expelled using this simple method.
