I just got a stingray clone. Going to go pick up some batteries today at illumination supply. Do I have to use 18500 batteries with the kick? Or can I use it with 18650?

Also, what is the difference between 18500 and 18450.

Finally, recommendations please for best or really good battery in each size.

I know to only get non protected imr batteries. I was thinking of getting the Sony vtc5s but read about them having problems chatting in the nitecore charger I want. Thanks

You can use a Kick (any version) with other battery sizes than 18500, as long as your mod has room to do so. On a Stingray, you'd need an extra extension tube to accomodate an 18650 and kick, but you can still use it with 18500 or 18350 size batts right out of the box

The difference between 18500 and 18490 is simple: none :) AW labels their IMR battery of that size 18490, but most other brands are labeled 18500, they're the same thing.
Battery size designations are standard, those numbers actually mean something. The first two digits are the approximate diameter in millimeters, the second two are the approximate legth in millimeters and the 0 at the end designates it to be a cylindrical shape. So for example, an 18650 will be a cylindrical battery approximately 18mm wide by 65mm long

In my opinion, the AW 18490 IMR 1100 mah battery is the best in this size (18490/18500) because of its 16.5 amps continuous rating. Purchase from a trustworthy vendor like RTD Vapor or Illumination Supply to avoid counterfeits. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-sure-your-aw-batteries-genuine-how-tell.html

The only other contender might be the purple Efest 18500 IMR 1100 mah battery with 15 amps continuous.

Thanks. So there is actually a 1 millimeter difference in length between 18490 and 18500? Stingray mod says it has a tube for 18490...That extra millimeter shouldn't be a problem?

So I just stopped by illumination supply. They didn't have any aw batteries. I actually picked up two of the purple efest you mentioned, before reading your reply...lucky me. I also got a blue Samsung 18650 to see how i like the vape unregulated.

good choice on the 18650 as there are a lot of fake sony's right now and it seems the authentic ones are all older than than the recommended shelf life for these types of batteries. as a matter of fact i have new samsungs coming this week and i will use my current authentic Sony's til they play out and then i'm going with more current batteries . Perfect that gives me a good idea. So I should plan to go through about four of them in a day.
Yep. if you can chain vape all day. 4 would be a Lot of vaping.

My 18500's are pretty new to me however. I usually go long mode with my nemesis and use 18650's all day.

2 vtc5's last me 16 hr work days of pretty heavy use. Say 12ml of juice or so for heavy vape day.

Last time I used 18500's all day I went 10 hrs or so on 2 before I ended up changing up devices. Didnt measure how close to dead that 2nd 18500 got.

Nope, won't be a problem. There is a variation of a few mm in length of any size battery between different brands. I have three different 18500/18490 batts on hand and they are all different: My AWs are about 49.5mm, my Nhaler-branded ones (bought way back when the Kick was first released, unknown manufacturer) are about 49mm, and one Efest that is about 52mm. All work just fine in the Stingray, there is room for the variation in the mod :)

Anyone guestimate how much life I can get out of one of those 18500 batteries? I'll be around 1.2 to 1.7 ohms. Let's say worst case scenario, chain vaping. I'll be using the kick.

3-4 hours is about right in my experience when using a Kick with them, depending on how heavy I'm vaping
