First I want to start by saying hello to everyone as I'm a new member!

My question is do I need PG in my E juice? I know what it's there for, but those reasons don't really interest my much, I am a former smoker and I enjoy the throat hit, but around 2 months ago I switched to nicotine free. I was thinking of making my own ejuice and have been researching the least few days and saw somehwere you can use VG, distilled water, and non oil based flavors? I was wondering if this was true or not before I go and waste money, I found everything I'd need at walmart for a start. Later I'm planning on getting more flavors as walmart has a very small selection of non oil based flavors, currently looking and Lorannn flavors and found a chart. I'm just wondering if water, VG and flavoring will be able to make an enjoyable liquid? Thanks!

Kind of depends upon the juice attachments you are using, in my opinion.

A 100% Vg eliquid is going to be pretty thick in viscosity, so it may not wick easily in some tanks; you might need the more viscous PG to help thin out the e-liquid so that it isn't so thick. (You can only use about 10% distilled water to dilute Vg.)

If you are using RDA or rebuildable drippers, this wouldn't be such an issue.

I'm not a huge fan of Pg myself, as I prefer a smoother vape (no throat hit). And since I pretty much drip or use a tank that can handle thicker e-liquids, I can use a Vg heavy e-liquid.

It's been said that Pg is the "flavor carrier" and Vg is the "vapor maker". Having said that, I've used e-liquids which were 100% Vg which were extremely flavorful. One might need to "steep" a 100% Vg e-liquid a little longer than one with some Pg in it because it is going to be thicker and therefore may need longer for the flavoring agents to congeal.

If you like a good throat hit you'll need some. But if you have a high power set-up you may not need it.

Try it without any, if it doesn't do it for you simply grab a pint (500ml.)
from any compounding pharmacy near you. It is only 5-10 bucks.

And I second what Baditude said.
Have fun with it eh!
Cheers.

PG is a very good flavor carrier, which is why most flavorings come in a PG base, I diy, I find even 5% PG makes a difference flavor wise, I would get it if I were you... Do you absolutely need it? Not really as long as your coils can handle max vg..

Personally I just get my nic PG based and that is enough for me...

Short list of Standard Flavoring companies used in vaping..

TPA (The Perfumers Apprentice)
TFA (The Flavor Apprentice)
Capella
Inawera
Flavor West (Has some premixed flavors as well as standard)

I think so yes. I was a long term smoker 47 years. When I started the only liquids available were 80/20pg/vg. I had been sick on and off for years with respiratory infections that took me out of work for weeks. After starting vaping I spent one week sick but I think they call that the quitters flu. I then had problems with vg as it caused me to have heavy lung problems. Everyone thought organic vg was the greatest thing going. After that I went to 50/50 pg/vg I stuck with and to this day I am still there. I have not been sick with any flu or bronchitis since then. I consider it a miracle. I think more studies need to be done on pg, but in this country no one wants a cure they just want you to buy their prescriptions.

Everyone's pretty much covered the VG/PG question, but I just wanted to say that if you're trying to find some decent flavors locally, my Michael's store has a better variety of Lorann's flavors than Walmart does. Just make sure the ones you get aren't oil based. I kinda like Lorann's grape, strawberry, and raspberry flavors, and they are pg based. The flavor companies mentioned above are waaaaay better than Lorann's. Unless you have a problem with ordering online, I'd suggest flavorings from one of them over Lorann's.
