Do I need to build so low?

Hi all,

I'm a new member, gave up the cigarettes about a year ago and have just gotten my first mech mod after using a Wismec dna200 with a Kennedy rda for the past 7 or 8 months. I tend to make my coils at circa 0.22-0.3 (total resistance on a dual build) in the kennedy and vape at 75-90 Watts depending on the liquid, which gives me just what I like.

The issue I have now is that I can't seem to hit that sweet spot on my shiny new single battery mech with a goon 24 on top, I've built down to 0.17 with my 30amp battery and it doesn't look too safe to go much lower according to steam engine calculators, but the coil just isn't fizzing like my regulated mod....I mean it works OK but the coils just don't get angry enough for my personal preference.

I've cleaned the mod and tried new batteries, wondering if I'm missing something or if I need to move to a parallel mod to give me more ampage......any recommendations much appreciated, I'd rather not trade this in if I'm missing something.....it's so pretty!

Thanks!

No you dont need to build so low. Real low on a mech means that battery life is sacrificed and how many puffs goes down significantly.

If you are used to high power then using a single battery mech is going to let you down sooner than with a reg device. There are some dual and more battery mechs out there that might be able to keep up with your vape style. I know that if you really study and do your research one can build the coil to be more efficient so it can give you big clouds and heat with out having to build lower than 0.50.

Just like everyone will advise you, do your research, make sure you have an ohm meter and know your batteries limits.

Thanks for the speedy response, I'm aware I won't get too long from it, I'm a big fan of the steam engine calculators and it looks like I'll be carrying some spare batteries around with me :) and I do have an ohm meter thanks.

The more efficient coil build is what I really need to work out....I'll get to googling, as I didn't know this was a thing....thank you!

Welcome aboard:thumbs:

If you want your coil to heat up to vaporization temps faster you may consider a wire with less thermal mass and a higher resistance.
If you want a thicker vape, more wick contact area.

But to sub-ohm doesn't necessarily mean just a sub-ohm coil. It came about from people using thicker or more resistance wire looking to heat up more wick thus atomizing more liquid faster.

I want to recommend kanthal a1 ribbon .08mm×.01mm, 5/4 wraps on ≈2.6mm not a warm vape but more efficient @0.8ohms for a single, 0.4 for twins your battery would last a bit longer:vapor:

Ensure you're using authentic cells. there are lots of good battery reviews here on ecf and remember it isn't recommend to push them to their limits. it prematurely ages them, and we like our cells and everything and everyone in good health around here.:rickroll:

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll order some kanthal and let you know how it goes, in the meantime I've moved to a thicker nichrome ribbon and shiny new batteries, which have made a huge difference and got me up to a more comfortable 0.2 dual build.
