so, when I do a dry burn on my T3 atomizers a lot of times the top flavor wick falls apart and I cant get it set perfectly back into previous position...they tend to unravel somewhat and not be as nice as they were before taking them out of the atomizer. do I really need to even have the top flavor wick in there? I saw a youtube this week and they were saying that they take their flavor wicks completely out of their T3 and it gave better vape and better flavor too...AND if it is recommended to leave in the top wick, what size wick would I need to buy to replace the flavor wick on my T3? I have also previously replaced a few flavor wicks with cotton swab material and to me it didn't seem to vape as good...? please advise me about the top flavor wicks, are they needed and what size wick are they if you know?

If you rewick your heads with cotton/hemp then chances are your not going to need the flavor wick unless you start to get juice film in your mouth from the splattering going up the mouthpiece. If you rebuild the heads then you might not need the flavor wick either since your replacing the chincy wicking supplied by kanger with your own build/wicking.
If your using stock heads without any DIY or modification then chances are your going to require that flavor wick to stop the gurgling and flooding that kanger heads are nortirious for. You either have to have some 1 or 2mm silica onhand to replace the thin wicks supplied with beefier ones that have to stick out each side some to stop flooding. If no silica then take a old top coil clearo and cut the wicking off and use that, some use twisted cotton but replacement of the flavor wick will be a lot sooner and more frequent than using silica. Another little trick is when the heads are brand new, open it up and carefully offset those 2 flavor wicks so one end of each wick sticks out the side a bit, that can also corral the flooding and gurgling.
If you manage to save the kanger flavor wicks you can tweezer them, rinse them off in hot water then torch them and reuse.

Do you need them? Depends. Some liquids are thin enough that you'll leak without them. Some don't. Dry hits usually come from over-drawing or other poor wicking - too much wick or flavor wick can actually cause it, but too little generally doesn't cause dry hits.

I use 100% cotton yarn, one full strand, to replace flavor wicks. Trim length to fit, of course.

IIRC, original Kanger heads use two 1 mm silica strands for flavor wick. Some of the Davide's use three.

Here's a short list of what I've tired as flavor wicks on kanger bcc. Bear in mind that is just my experience with it and yours might differ. The coils are micro coils wrapped around a 1/16 screw. Main wick is cotton.

3mm silica : no leaks. Occasional dry hits. Coil may be compressed down as flavor wick is too thick.

2mm silica : no leaks, but if you draw too hard, flavor wick will get displaced-leading to leaks.

Cotton : too little and it leaks. Too much and you get a tight draw and loss of flavor. Didn't like it as flavor wicks.

3mm ekowool : same experience as 3mm silica. But can be torched and reused for many more times as compared to silica.

2mm ekowool : current favorite. No leaks. Can vape till tank is dry.

Butchers twine (cotton string) : currently testing. Seems to be on par with 2mm ekowool. Cheaper than ekowool and can just cut a new length since its much cheaper.

No flavor wicks : main wick has to be thicker to prevent leaks. High tendency to spit juice out the tube. But flavor is really good.

Hemp : awaiting delivery. :)

So, you just have to try and see which works best for you.

Edit : juices were either 70pg/30vg or 100pg.

I think just replacing the flavor wicks with new silica wicks would be the best bet. can anybody tell me what "brand/size" wick should I use to replace the current T3 flavor wicks? I saw on ebay that I can buy silica wicking, but im not sure if that's the "correct" stuff? what size do I need...either 1 mm or 2 mm? does it need/prefer to be a certain kind or brand of silica? do I need to burn the silica before I replace it? what I see on ebay looks like it is "braided....when I remove the old wicks they look kinda twisted or braided....but im totally not sure what I need to do a replacement....PLEASE ADVISE. (and buying silica wicking is obviously cheap so im not concerned about cost).

Well, it's cheap enough you could buy some of each.

But if you only want one, get the 1 mm. Don't twist them, lay then parallel to each other under the chimney.

Having smaller and being able to build up to what you want give you more flexibility. And since some of the Aros and Davides use 3 strands of 1 mm, getting the 1 mm lets you replace those as well. Getting only 2 mm would reduce said flexibility.
