Do "protected" eGo batteries exist?

Hi everyone. My first post here so please be gentle. LOL ;)

I am THE definition of a vaping newb, and recently bought two Genuine Joyetech eGo kits (absolutely love them BTW) for me & the wife from vaporkings.com. I remember reading the instructions saying that the quick-chargers have "over-charge" protection, but it also stated that the batteries themselves are "unprotected". After reading some of the threads around this forum talking about the potential dangers (exploding, etc.) of unprotected batteries, I'm sure you can understand why I'd be just a little bit concerned.

I've tried doing searches for protected batteries for the eGo, but haven't had any luck yet. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? I'd greatly appreciate any help with this.

Thank you. :)

I don't know for sure but, I don't think you need to worry about this one. I'm pretty sure all eGo batteries are protected. In fact, I feel confident saying that all batteries made for vaping have some safety measures built in. You only have to worry about that if you go off into mods and start using generics as I and a lot of other people do.

I think the MOSFET switch would go up before the battery would blow. I could be wrong though. I've never heard of an ego exploding as of yet.

Most catastrophic events happen to unprotected batteries in mods. I would be less concerned about a proprietary battery. I hope this bit of info helps ease your mind.

hello,

I had an ego clone 650 passthrough battery pop on me when I was actually vaping with it. The tube got super hot, so I tossed the PV on the lawn. Then smoke came out of the bottom and it popped both the battery and the usb port out of the battery tube. (I hate that ozone smell from battery outgassing) It didn't blow up or explode.

When I took it apart later on, it seemed that the battery internally shorted as there was nothing wrong with the atomizer, mosfet or switch.

I also had this happen to me with an L88b auto battery as well, but that was from juice leaking down the battery hole.

Like any other manufactured product, there are bound to be duds or mistakes made in manufacture that get past quality control and inspection. No matter how good the product is or no matter how many safety features are incorporated.

So all I can tell you is that no matter what pv or battery you use, just use some common sense. If you feel something is wrong like the battery is getting too hot or sparks or whatever it might do out of the ordinary, just put it on the side and stop using it.

I stand corrected. I'm glad you told us about this. I'm always leary of batteries but not to the point that I will go back to smoking...that scares me worse than the batteries. I know stuff can happen when it comes to electronics. Keeping everything, except the atomizer, as dry is possible is always the safest. If it's something internal, we can't control that.

I bought a mod from a well know vendor (I'm not saying who because this wasn't their fault but the fault of the battery manufacturer). The batteries I purchased were protected. To make a long story short, one of the batteries heated up my PV rather quickly. I got the cap off as I was running to the front door, shook the battery out, and threw it onto the lawn. I waited a bit and watched, nothing happened. Touched it to see if it was hot, it wasn't. Needless to say, it hit the recycle bin.

IF you want a protected battery eGo, then get the E-power!

It has a removable battery feature, so all you have to do is buy a protected cell for it, and voila.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I do appreciate it. My mine is eased a little now knowing that the name-brand proprietary batteries are usually pretty good. But, we'll definitely be watching them closely & not charging them unattended (per the instructions).

To the poster above me, I have checked out the "E-power". I does look like a nice option. I've also seen some "roughstacks" that look interesting too.

Thanks again to all that replied. I'm enjoying vaping much more than those nasty smokes. ;)
