It bothers me when people use "WTF" in a post

Does anyone read the word as
dubaya-tee-eff

Of course not when you see that word you say in your head
What the Funk

To be honest I think this is a shiety practice because your geting away with saying the funk word by making me say it, isn't that the same as just saying it in the first place?

Don't get me wrong I swear like a funking sailor, but it's a comon and acceptable practice in my area.

I know in the south you can get thrown out of a bar if they hear you curse.

So which members have a dirty mouth?
Any one have some funking orbitz? My mouth is all shippy; tastes like asp!
:p

I'm slowly getting better both on the forums as well as the phone and face to face.

I find its a slippery slide here as your pummelled with it on a daily baises from all walks of life. Especially in the construction trades where I'm an electrician.

I took it upon myself to attempt to better my personal portrayal a couple years ago because, really, its just not me and I found myself simply addapting to those around me out of routine.

But the internet is a different ball game and really has become acceptable to use those expressions simply because the web is faceless and it manages to instill some sort of emotion in a text only form environment. Regardless of the availability of "smilies".

It may not be right, as you probably don't or won't do it while on the phone talking to someone, or face to face with strangers, but its become mainstay and "web" acceptable.

Now, if the youngster's start using their "hollywood gangta in da hood" slang on here I'll be totally lost.....

I have a whole different kind of hatred for "WTF". I can't stand when a grown ... man puts WTF in a post or text or anything else for that matter. After I read "WTF" , I can't help but to associate them to be a 12 year old girl, leaning back in their computer chair, snapping her gum, using the word "like" way too many times in a sentence, and tapping her feet to her new Backstreet Boys greatest hits album.

But to answer your question....yes.....hello everyone, my name is SannerSays, and I am a cussaholic!

I don't think the backstreet boys are popular anymore :p I may be wrong...

Good to see a complete lack of non-cursers ^_^ 22-0

I do use lots of very foul language in casual setttings:oops:. I am, however, trying to clean it up after hearing a very dear writer friend of mine explain why he finds it hard to respect someone who uses profanity regularly.

He said he considers it pure laziness. It is easy to use explatives to convey the gravity of your emotions. It is much more difficult and requires much more creativity to find a way to convey that without such words. I can totally see his point. I can also see where it conveys a certain lack of class, social standing, and education. For those reasons, I make an effort not to use the forbidden terms. They do, however come out from time to time. Sometimes I even decide midsentence that no other word will suffice, the F-word is totally necessary to get my anger and frustration across.

As for an earlier post citing the use of WTF, that too is laziness. That is taking a shortcut. I do it on occasion, but don't make a habit of it because that simply is not my style. I was properly educated in a public school, where I learned to spell quite well and learned that anything written is held to a higher standard simply because you had a little more time to edit it than if it were simply said aloud. I was taught that slang and shorthand were way too casual to be used with people you may not know.

Reader's Digest version: yes, I fuc-ing cuss like a sailor, but I am not a dam-ed bit proud of it.;)
