Hi there,
I'm a reporter for a national news organization and am writing a story about people's experience vaping (or not vaping) at work -- whether your employer allows it, whether you do it inside, outside, etc. I'm trying to find people to interview for the story. I always prefer to use people's names but can also include comments anonymously. If you'd like to share your story, please email me at nycjournalist11369@gmail.com. Many thanks.

Yes I do. I'm in construction so smoking is almost a must among us. Inside the office I have found that most people don't mind it as there is virtually no smell or lingering cloud. I believe most people that have any offense to it are offended by the idea that it LOOKS LIKE SMOKING! With all the federal and state regulations we have all grown to love over the years it is hard for people to open their minds and shut their mouths. Also living in Texas helps as there are bars and restaurants everywhere that still allow smoking inside here. Now that I have quit smoking and strictly vape I find the smell offensive. I don't however go and gripe about it because it is their right to do so. I can either choose to leave or endure it. MY CHOICE! If the few would get out of the business of the many and exercise their right to LEAVE OR CHANGE THE CHANNEL! Life could be so much easier to live! :headbang:

I really would prefer to know exactly what periodical you write for, and your full name, before interacting with you.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'll spill the beans: my name is Lauren Weber and I work for the Wall Street Journal. Feel free to message me at my work email: lauren.weber@wsj.com.

Nice to meet you Lauren. Yes, I do vape at work, but not openly. I'm in NYC as well, so it is banned. However, before the ban, my company did not have a vaping policy. I was told by the VP, and I quote, "There isn't a policy but I imagine there will soon be one if a client sees you, so just keep it low" He was a former smoker himself, and understood where I was coming from. We also have a client here that vapes, and sometimes I'll go into his office to vape together. We rent office space, and we have several locations through out the city. There are various empty offices in my facility that I also use to sometimes vape, along with the bathroom stalls. There is no lingering cloud or smell, so no one is the wiser save for my fellow vaping client. I do enjoy going outside to vape as well, with my former smoking buddies. I've gotten quite a few interested in vaping that way.

Lauren, why don't you come over for lunch? I mean, errr, why don't you come and have lunch with me?

Okay, seriously...

Well your story checks out on the surface, so "hi".

I vape at work. I have two co-workers (whom I converted) who vape at work, too. We have all agreed to keep our vaping in our private offices and out of common areas. The owner of the firm is happy to have us off of cigarettes, so he supports vaping fully.

I do. And nobody is going to tell me that I can't because I own the business.

Except when they ban it in all indoor spaces.... Like NYC. Then again, I don't think this ban is enforceable at all. No smell, no lingering cloud of smoke.... I view it as essentially paying lip service to the types of people who walk down city streets with their shirts or jackets pulled up over their noses lest a stray whiff of cigarette smoke drift their way. Nevermind that no one has ever measured a significant amount of any carcinogen or toxin in second hand vapor. Smoke, I can see. To be paranoid of vapor though.... My set up looks NOTHING like a cigarette.

I work in a small office in NC. My boss is very anti-smoking, so I only vape when I'm alone. He actually doesn't know I vape at all. Whether he would be amenable to it or not... I don't know. He'd probably be ok with it. But I'm alone enough that I've never felt the need to do it in front of anyone.
